Starting Orencia Monday | Arthritis Information

Hi  Everyone,
 
My doctor's office called and they just got the okay to start me on Orencia Monday.  It's a relief to finally know that I have been approved by my insurance company.  (It's also a little scary to be starting something new after being on Enbrel for about eight years.) 
 
I'll get my first infusion on the 5th and the second one on the 19th.  After that point it will be once a month.  I forgot to ask if the infusion is given exactly every fourth week, or if it is given on approximately the same day of the month.  So, here I am again, looking for support and answers.  For those few of you who are on Orencia, could you let me know how your schedules are set up?  If you are out-of-town, is it a big deal to get the infustion a couple of days early or late?  (Of course, wouldn't you know, we have planned a trip right around the time of my fourth infusion.  At least airline tickets aren't involved.)
 
For those of you who may be thinking about taking Enbrel.....it has been a wonder drug for me.  It worked great for about six years, but I should have made a change about two years ago.  I just kept fighting adding another drug, but finally added Methotrexate about four months ago and  it has made a difference.  If I'd faced the fact that Enbrel wasn't doing the job sooner, I would probably be in better shape now.  I guess I was just in denial....

Hi Sharon, I can't really help you but I will bump this up, best of luck, Janie. I have been on Orencia for 8 months, and I receive it every 4 weeks, not on the same day each month. Good luck,  hope it works for you It will end up being every 4th week...the day usually will vary a bit.  My dr. will give it 3 days early-but not any earlier than that.Thank you for your good wishes.  There sure aren't many people on Orencia.  I guess most people are more comfortable on  the  more established biologics.  When I started Enbrel, I think it had only been approved by FDA a year earlier.  There were more people using it as it was the only biologic out there.    Thanks again.

Only know what I've seen on the commercials... so wishing you'll be able to say after your infusion:  Oh yes I can!!!!hi sharon just wanted to wish good luck whith the orencia
and hope it does as well as enbrell for you..8yrs is a pretty good run..

Boney   Hi Sharon - Best of luck as you begin your Orencia treatments.........I get mine on the first Monday of every month.  Both my doctor and the IV nurse have said that moving it up or back by a day or so won't make any difference.  Please keep posting and let us know how it goes for you?  I'll be thinking of you...........
