starting remicade today | Arthritis Information

I am going in for my first remicade treatment today and I am a little scared. Can anyone tell me what I can expect? The weird part about the whole thing is I have to do mail order prescriptions and they sent everything to my house.  I received a huge box from them with 3 huge bags of stuff (IV tubing , syringes, gloves etc.) I could barely find the remicade. Why would they want to send this stuff to me? That's .000 dollars of medicine and supplies to a patient. You would think they would want to send it to my doctor. Go figure.I'm sorry I can't tell you what to expect because I have no experience in the subject. Just wanted to wish you the best of luck for a good experience and relief with your RA symptoms! Not sure why they would want to send it to you either!  Odd!  Oh well, load it all up and take it with you.  I go to the hospital for my infusions, the chemo therapy ward.  Its just a big room with lots of reclining chairs.  They will start an IV, than mix up the medicine.  They will check your blood pressure, pulse and temp.  They will start the infusion at a slow rate right into your IV.  Where I go, the IV machine beeps in 15 minutes, they recheck your vital signs and increase the dose for another 15 minutes.  Than I think it goes for 30 minutes at a time.  The first one I had, they made me stay an hour after it was done just to make sure I didn't have any sort of reaction, now I can leave right after.  I still takes 2-3 hours.  Its pretty painless once the IV is in, you can just kick back and nap or read a book or watch tv.

I get tired and a little nauseous after mine.  Be sure to eat.  I have had a total of 4 infusions now and haven't had any real complications!  Good luck!

Good luck and hope it works for you! Let us know how it goes!
Good luck with the Remicade!  I know exactly how you are feeling....I'm starting Orencia on Monday.  The unknown is always a little scary.  You'd think that after being one  RA drug or another for 40 years I'd be used to it!  Anyway, I sure hope your first experience is a good one and that you get relief before long!
