Does pain meds help with nerve pain?

I ask because this pain I have in my thigh, is always in the same spot and it is not running up & down like a muscle would, but it felt like it was my thigh muscle that was tightened. The part that hurts is running from the inside of my thigh diagonally to the outside of my hip. It is something thst is stationary in my thigh. I know the muscle is involved, but not the only thing involved.

The pain meds & muscle relaxers help with that thightned muscle, but there is still pain in that area, but not the muscle, because when I move my leg the pains I was having from just movement are gone, so those were the muscle pain.

Do I make any sense. I need to find a away to explain this to my RD better. I am just short of using diagrams and sharpies on my leg. This has got to be fixed and reffer me to the correct doctor to take care of this problem.

Thanks
Joonie
HI Joonie, nerve pain is generally treated with Gabapentin, aka Lyrica, or Neurontin, I have tried both but found Endep aka amytriptilene,  a drug for epilepsy much better for nerve pain.  I am pretty sure Nsaids help too, but not regular pain relievers or opiates etc.  Hope this helps, hugs Janie.  Edited by me for drug name.

Now this is what I am having trouble putting this all together...

When the pain meds & muscle relaxer kick in... my leg is not so weak not much pain on movement and I can move my leg around a whole lot better than before pain med & muscle relaxer kicked in.

Like an hour before the pain med & muscle relaxer kicked in... from my hip down to my knee it would be very weak and pain shooting thru the front side of my thigh, I would have pain in groin area closest to the hip and and on the outside of my thigh and hip, but I could still bend and move my foot freely and no pain.

Ok like before pain meds kick in my knee will feel very unstable. Like just the slightest jerk will very yelp worthy. For instance... tonight was sitting on in-laws couch had my legs across hubby and between his legs because the swelling in my knees prevents me from having them straight. Well... hubby had his hand between my leg and his stomach. He moved his hand and it made my leg drop an inch closer to his stomach and it was shear pain. I screamed and got red faced from the pain and hubby was just shocked that it hurt me like it did. To me it felt like one part of my knee joint went one way while the other part stayed put. It is like twisting your knee, except for me no twisting just movement.

I am just so bummed at how I have to take pain meds for a joint to act right. It is like the pain meds "limber" my joints up. The pain meds make my joints a loose drunk LOL! They just cut loose and anything goes, except pain. I mean... it is like the pain meds make joints the drunk slut of the party LOL!! If you know what I mean.

I guess it is fibro, because of how it improves when the pain meds & muscle relaxer kicks in. But there is still a pain even when the rest of the pain is calmed by the meds.

Oh well... this fibro crap is just stupid and bumable!

Hi again Joonie, how is it when you walk?  It sounds to me like it needs looking at, when did you last have an Xray or an ultrasound?  I reckon the nerve is getting trapped, pain relievers may help a little with any associated pain around the nerve but not the nerve itself, hope that makes sense!  I talk jibberish sometimes and confuse myself, God knows how I make others feel!!!  Ha ha  You may have a tear in the meniscus, I had one in my knee, I still don't know how it happened, my Ortho said it was just damage everywhere from RA and OA, so he fixed the tear and cleaned the synovium out etc, it felt much better, this was about 18 months ago, I still get pain but now I don't get the feeling that there is a bubble inside that needs popping?  Let me know how it goes, luv ya - your pal Janie.XX
