FOOT PROBLEM | Arthritis Information

Hi,

I have RA AND OA.  For the past few months I have been having a reoccurring problem with my feet, especially my left foot.  On the sole of my foot it will start to burn, then it will start having a horrible itch.  It will wake me up at night itching.  Then once the itching stops it will start to hurt to were I can hardly walk on it.  My doctor didn't seem concerned.  My MD doesn't know what it is.  My father had RA and had ulcers on the front of his legs, could this be a sign of that?  The sole of my foot is red not swollen in fact, it is a perfectly round red circle and hurts to walk on it.  Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
You say the sole of your foot...be more specific. The heel? arch? ball?It is below my big toe and just below the ball of my foot.

Thank you
I get a lot of burning in my feet...numbness as well...my feet have a lot of damage...so I'm assuming that's what's causing my problems.  Do you have a lot of damage?  Or maybe it's causing problems with the nerves?  I'm really not sure.  I'd make sure you as your doctor again but make sure you ask him/her what he/she thinks could be causing this.  kelstev, I have alot of burning and numbness. is yours in the ball of your foot. always thought it was nerve damage but Rd say Ra. also is affecting my toes.Hi, I have always been told that itching is a nerve issue, try some of that ice gel for arthritis.  Regards Janie. Thanks to all of you for responding.  I have problems with the back of my legs have lots of pain.  It feels like growing pains.  I was first told it was RLS, then later tendinitis, now the doc said it may be nerve damage.  I was given some meds for that and so far, fingers crossed, no pain.  Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that if my foot is nerve damage also then this medicine should help with that.  Thanks to you all.Janlee...yes the ball of my foot is very painful.  Feels like I'm walking on a rock (each foot is like that)  My doctor has talked about surgery, but I'm putting that off for a bit. I suffer with that issue too, nanamom. It is actually one of the symptoms that took me to my GP with the flare this past summer.

I don't have it as often since being medicated w/ MTX and enbrel, but I do still get the burning.  And, I've seen some resulting destruction, so, I would lean toward it being an RA issue and one that is not positive.  I had the burning in the ball joint of my big toe and now the joint sticks out on top and on the side of my foot.   Shortly after the burning in the bottom of my foot last summer(Originally thought to be plantar fasciatis (SP?) my second and third toe formed a "V" ...

I hope these experiences of mine don't upset you.  I feel we all need to be honest with each other about our own situations.

good luck to you.
Babs...the "V" you mentioned...do you mean the space between those 2 toes formed a "V"? That's what I have on both feet as well.Hi

I have the same problem with my feet on the ball of my feet and burning but no itching.  Also have ankle and knee pain and hand and wrist pain too.

Babs, Thanks I appreciate any input that is why I am so happy I found this website.  I think it is my RA also.  Maybe when I go back to my Doctor he will notice.

As I mentioned, in the earlier post I am on a medicine for nerve damage for the pain I have in the calf area.  I thought it was helping but I had a horrible night again.  Maybe the med. is not in my system enough to help.  What do you all think?

Thanks
