Aspartame | Arthritis Information

I know that aspartame has been discussed on here, but I just received an email stating that it causes MS, birth defects, lupus and several other disorders.  However, Snopes says that this is false.
What is your opinion?
Well, isn't everything bad for you? I say screw it. Eat what you want.

hehehe

I'd like to see the studies where those assertions are proven. I'm running out to get myself a Tab soda now.

PS - I'm sure there will be someone who responds seriously about the story. I'm delirious with fatigue. *hugs*
For some reason... I think I read it some where... I have a hard time letting my son have diet anything. Even though it is less sugar... I still do not let him have any of it, because I read it was harmful to a developing brain... and well... he needs to be as smart as he can get.

Personally I had a bad experience with aspartame...my first time trying it I developed an extreme headache and literally began seeing spots.  My doctor called it an allergic reaction and I haven't used any aspartame products since.
Oh, and my other opinion is that Snopes is pretty good.  I rely on it for verifying all incoming forwards.Dr Mercola wrote or co-wrote a book about the wickedness of artificial sweeteners.

Common sense would dictate that *Anything* chemically cooked up cannot, in any way, be "good" for us.

I believe I read that the chemical/molecular make-up of DEET and Splenda are supposed to be remarkably similar....

I have to stay away from artificial sweetners.  Doesn't matter which one (except stevia).  They all swell my body causing edema and cause horrible allergy attacks due to the chemicals in it.  Some worse than others.

Nobody has tested these like they should, all artificial sweetners kind of passed under the bar with the FDA.  I personally would like full studies done on all of these.

But, all i know for sure is what it does to my body.

cdndream, I'm really surprised to see you write this.  There are plenty of natural compounds that are bad for us (even deadly), and there are at least some chemical ones that are good for us (even life-saving)...after all, didn't you say you're taking an NSAID and about to start DMARDs?

I understand the inclination toward natural products whenever possible, but a sweeping statement like this doesn't hold much common sense for me.

I personally do not think that the FDA is doing their job to protect the public.  I would not be surprised if they were somehow rewarded by these big companies to hush up the bad news.  Money can change a lot of minds.  Just look how long the cigarette companies got away with murder and now they arrest people who smoke pot!!??

I wouldn't say NSAIDs and DMARDs are good for you. They block symptoms but they do not improve your health.PS---I'm inlcined to agree with cdndream. I'm the kind of person who has always picked butter over margarine because I think any edible food-like product that can only be produced in a factory is nutritionally suspect. I try to eat food thats as unprocessed as possible and I describe myself diet as "foodarian".I can't use any of the artificial stuff either, severe headaches, bodyaches etc.  I just stay away form it period. They are not structurally or chemically similar.

Sorry if I was unclear, I wasn't saying that NSAIDs and DMARDs in particular are good for us, just that there are chemical compounds that can be helpful and even save lives.  I thought it was a bit contradictory to say common sense tells us chemical compounds are not good for us while taking those same compounds, and those are two that cdndream mentioned in another post.
