CAREGivers/ Providers, does anyone else have one, Here, besides me?

Would you like one?

Mine is paid by the state.

Just wondering if more people open to this discussion, lol!

My caregiver, is WONDERFUL, can't say enough grreat things about her!!

the system, i'm lucky tho it has its quirks..

I see people in pain and having to do things, so I guess, i just want them to be able, to have what I have... she helps soooooooo much!!!

blessings all
Luckily I'm not in a condition to need one... but I do get worn out from being caregiver to so many others!  Some days I want to lock 'em all in a room and scream "figure it out for your own damn selves!" LOL, jas, thats not the kind of caregiver, i'm talking about!!!

(that sounds more like a mom, a job i'd loathe, well i would! ) lol

I have my own rule, i get 5 mins to vent to her, bc i look totally normal, but not inside..so if i'm having a rough day, i'll tell her.. and then she makes sure I don't over do or carry more than i should.

We share the same humor, she goes out of her way for me.. i always think i'm bitchy, she doesn't lol.

There are times, i feel guilty bc i'm in too much pain to move,  or do much, but thats her job, cleaning and laundry, etc.. and she's all cool w/ it.. i'm lucky..

The system is soo narrow minded , but she's not..
I totally trust her.. and thats not an easy thing for me.. and i lucked out.. or both ways actually, since i can make her lol, lOL

Just happened to see an agency (they charged, not state) and they gave me the name for the State agency.. i'm really lucky and blessed, bc man i can't do stuff, that i want to..

It hurts just when my cat wants to sleep on my arm, and i'm like ow, honey i'm sorry but get off, lol... or picking up an oprah mag, do you know how heavy they are??! gawd, lol

or someone else mentioned the sheets.. YES!!! i soo know what you mean, and for me
heat works, so i keep the radiator on at night..

All, i know is if you need one, don't be stubborn, go and apply.. its soo worth it and makes your world better!! Plus you get to choose who you hire, .. (you hire, they pay)..
HI my hubby is my paid carer, he gets an allowance from the govt, and I have a cleaner fortnightly to do the big jobs, it is a free service due to the state of my health, I really appreciate them both.  JANIE Cords needs this sort of help..
LOL, jas, thats not the kind of caregiver, i'm talking about!!! . W,
Thanks for bringing up an important subject, especially for those of us who've had RA for years and are in need some help at home. I'm happy that you have found a helper that you get along with and with whom you can trust, that is so important.

After the toll of 31 yrs of RA, I need to hire someone, it would make my life so less stressful.  Just doing the basics can be very taxing.  I have always been very independent though and its difficult for me to ask for help or rely on someone, but the time has come, its just a matter of finding the right person.

Your post is very timely, I had just decided to find a "driver" to take me to appts and such, so I don't have to bother family members, and I'm trying to get rid of clutter in my home so if I hire a helper to clean, they can get a vacuum cleaner through my house (joking, not that bad).  So wish me luck, and take care, having a helper will hopefully allow you to conserve your energy and focus on your health.
Cords needs this sort of help..
I totally agree!

I'm lucky to have DH here to help me out, but he does work. There are lots of days when I wish we had family here or friends or someone to come help. I might just have to look into this.

The STATE will pay for you... FREE...

They give you a list of people, you do the interviewing and you can also advertise on craigs, etc.. You can hire anyone you want..

(if you need phone #'s pm me, if its not full, lol, also can leave your email addy for me)

Are you on disability? I'm pretty independent, and one of those people, who just always ASK.. shrug.. I know a lot of people don't like asking, I never mind, lol.. If you don't ask, you don't get.. is my policy..  Plus, I don't like pain, and to me, its just not worth the pain, to overdo.. shrug..

The agency has all these "rules"..; but i have to tell you the providers are cool and usually do more for you, and go beyond...more about that privately lol.. My providers have all, taken me out and about!!
why pay, if you don't have to?     I don't know exactly what the requirements are to get on it.. but I think it'd be worth looking into :)

ahhh jas, now i understand a bit more!!  YOur parents might be elgible for this type of care and if you have RA.. you really need to slow down and take it easy, esp working..
(bossy wench aint i? lol hee~
and stephen , thats exactly one reason, i posted, so Cordy could get some help!!  Mrs.A, just saw your post.. go for it!! :)

For me, it was really pretty fast and easy... the hard part, is finding the right person!!!

Any more ?;'s feel free to ask, and i really really ENCOURAGE people to apply for this!!
Its such a huge lifesaver!!

W, I'll check with the state, but I don't think I'd financially qualify, I have decent retirement benefits.   I've had to rely on my sister more these last few years, but we always bicker, we have different ideas on how to do things,  so thats partly why I dislike  asking for help.  So I'd probably save a lot of headaches by hiring someone and avoiding sibling squabbles.

I was in a rehab facility (nursing home) for several months, so I know there are kind, considerate, compassionate caregivers out there, but I also know there are some that should have chosen a different profession.  But, nothing ventured nothing gained,  "seek and ye shall find"......a reliable helper.  I'll have to start making some phone calls . . .

I

My husband is my caregiver.  When needed he helps me get in bed, get dressed, fixes my food and drinks, helps me get to the shower and then takes care of the home business, cleans house, runs errands etc.

Without him, I would be stuck sometimes.
