My son again! | Arthritis Information

Hi guys, as you know my son has been unwell for a while after a nasty bang on his head, he became epileptic about 8 weeks later, he is still having seizures but not as frequently now he is medicated.

I need to ask you all an important question, he has had sore eyes for the last 7 weeks and has had three different eye drops including steroids continuously in that time.  Each time we wean him off of his drops the eyes return to very sore, red and corneal ulcers on the outer edge of the cornea.

This time though, I asked again if he could have episcleritis as I get that (from my RA) and I am dreading that he may have RA.  The specialist agreed yesterday that his eyes definitely have episcleritis and gave him more drops and said if he continues to take them then his eyes will eventually be worse from the medicines????? the steroids I guess.

I said does this mean he may have RA, he asked about his joints which occasionally do hurt him but I thought that was just his age, (11).  He then said he was going to order blood tests as episcleritis is usually an accompaniment to an autoimmune disorder!!!!!!  He had his bloods done yesterday and I should have the results on Tuesday, please pray they are wrong and its just a virus or reaction to his epilepsy meds, (started in August 07). Therefore unlikely I guess?

Can any of you shed some light on this?  Thanks for any assistance, Janie.XX

janiefx2008-05-10 04:38:07I can't shed any light Janie, but I can pray for your son and I did.  Please keep us updated.  Do they say if he will outgrow his seizures?HI Linc, they don't know if he will outgrow them, I still feel it was due to the bump on his head, (through an accident at school, ignored by his teacher even though he was in the corner crying holding his head, other child was given ice, Liams friends told teacher he was crying and needed her and she said if he has a problem he needs to tell her himself)  poor kid had amnesia and didn;t know what had happened and spent the night in hosp with a big violet and black eye.  I spoke to a solicitor about neglect of duty, he said it would be pointless trying for a case as the outcome wouldn't have changed regardless, something keeps niggling at me to take it further for Liams future.  I am going to try legal aid and see what they say.  Regards Janie.

I have no knowledge on the subject either but also send prayers. Poor kid!

So sorry, Janie.....Let's hope he doesn't have RA............ It made me cry thinking of my little one.......we learn to bear with our pain, we big grownups, but they SHOULD be spared......... Janie,
Just thought I'd quickly mention the link between diet and seizures.   It's been in the press in the UK the past week.... special diets that significantly help epilepsy.  Like reducing them by 80%.   Also, you can grow out of childhood epilepsy.... I did.
