Made a discovery with vitamins | Arthritis Information

I currently use Enbrel, Methotrexate, and Mobic to treat my RA symptoms.

I began using some Mega Men vitamins for energy and also glucosomine and chondroitin (sp).  One week I was feeling extreme pain in my wrist and hands, felt like a sprain a bad one.  I was beginning to get worried that the Enbrel may not be working any longer since I have been taking since Jan 2003.

Well fastforward to Saturday, I went to help a freind boil some crawfish, and forgot to take my meds.  My wife brought me only the mobic to take that day.  I began to feel fine later in the day and enjoyed a fun night.  Sunday I did not take my meds and vitamins until noon.  I felt fine all day until 3pm, then my wrist started feeling sprained agian.  I then realized that the damn vitamins were causing me to flare up and hurt.   I have since stopped taking them and have felt fine for 2 straight weeks.  I actually attempted to swing a golf club today just to start getting used to the strain that it puts on my wrist.

I feel good even though my golf game sucks.
Interesting.

If me I would try the Vits again just to confirm, but thats me.
Prix,

I made the same mistake. At that time I was doing enbrel, mtx and pred and ran out of the vitamins I was taking and decided to crank up my quality of vitamins. I purchased New Chapter Organics EVERY MAN "Nourishing Power and Protection for Men". I read through all of the supplements and was quite impressed and so purchased the vitamins. Atho I read the complete package, I forgot about looking for this statement on everything I injest, "PROMOTES IMMUNE FUNCTION". It only took a couple of days for the flare to start and almost a week before my old mind figured out the problem. I stopped the vitamins and the flare went with them. I now take a somewhat basic without any immune boosters.

Hope this helps, and good luck on the golf game.  Crawfish? are you from New Orleans?I have tried different vitamins and i too have the same problem, so i don't take them, all mine come in food.I have been taking USANA vitamins and chelated  minerals for close to a year now.  As far as I am aware they are agreeing with me.  Before I started taking them I was bruising at the drop of a hat and also had some skin tears, even at a slight bump.  During this short period of time when I was brusing so easily, I was taking 3-4 grams of Predisone for about a two-week period every couple of months.  I  have done this in  the past (very infrequently) and never had the brusing or skin  tearing problem before.  However, the Predisone  may have contributed to the problem and  I haven't taken any now for over a  year.  Nevertheless,  I still feel these vitamins and  mineral supplements have helped immensely.  Are any of you taking this supplement?

I'd be hard pressed to blame an ordinary vitamin supplement. I think the problem lies in overdoing them. You could easily take some of these vitamins every other day. Almost any regular multivitamin contributes to the immune system to some degree.

We tend to get very disease focused by our illness. While decreasing pain is high on our list, our bodies need to be properly nourished. I'd rather experiment with vitamin dosing and see if I can isolate what/when causes my pain instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I will try the cut doses.
The problem with my golf game other than my swing, is the pain in my wrist as I have alomst lost all flexability in them.  It sucks not to be able to play the one past time that you enjoyed over all these years especially the money I put it, but things could be worse.

As far as being from New Orleans, Yes I am, but now reside just outside of Baton Rouge.  If you never had boiled crawfish you need to get to Southern Louisiana sometime in the spring.  If you hit us right after Easter the prices are cheaper.  They are very good and people crave them all year round.  Come on down for an LSU baseball game next year and get some of these bad boys.
Have to be careful with anything that "boosts the immune system", so many of these vitamins and supplements seem to do this.
