Arthritis Walk | Arthritis Information

We drove to the Knoxville Arthritis Walk today!  It was a beautiful day, and such nice people.  They also had dogs in the walk, which made it a lot of fun.  We took our 2 boys and my parents joined.  We raised 0 (Our little team, that is).

The best part by far, though, was getting my parents to go.  They are moving from "I'm sure it's just carpal tunnel, it's just an overuse injury" to "but no one in our family has arthritis."  (Which isn't true, my uncle has RA in his hands, which they say "no big deal" to, and my dad apparently had surgery on his thumb joint for arthritis.  Also, he has terrible bunions (OA).  They just don't want to acknowledge that their baby is not 100% healthy).

Anyway, hopefully I will have all of this behind me soon, but, if I don't ever acheive permanent remission, this was a great way to get my family exposed and out of denial.  It was sort of presumptious on my part to set it up myself, but it felt good to raise money and was a nice way to inform not-so-close friends of what is going on with me...

We walked about a mile or two.  My hip/lower back was a bit problematic but not too much.  My ankles look a bit swollen but don't hurt.  It felt good to get exercise!
KatieG2008-05-17 18:33:01I'm jealous!  I have relatives in the knoxville area.  Wish I was there!  I also understand where you're coming from with the "no big deal', and no one in the family has "arthritis".

Good for you for organizing and walking
