leg pain, pred, not sleeping | Arthritis Information

HI everyone,

I notice quite a few posts regarding leg pain preventing sleep.  I am like the majority of you and don't want any more meds but when you do not sleep you cannot restore yourself at all.  Most of the leg pain as I understand, comes with the pred for most and develop restless leg syndrome.  There are some good medications that take care of it, Mirapex and Klonopin.  They will quiet those legs down so rest can happen.
I will speak only of my own experience with the pred, but it interferes with the brain waves and keeps me so stirred up or wired, might be an more accurate description, that sleep was just on and off and that increased the pain, fatique until I was almost imobile.
Finally, the doctor got it, no sleep, not going to help to get better.
I hope everyone has a good night.
Marlene
Hi Marlene.
I developed the RLS later on.  It's the painful kind.  I tried the Mirapex, but had nightmares as well as nausea.  I tried to ride it out, but the nightmare were frightful and I spent the rest of the nights trying to quiet myself down.  Because of medical issues that involves my kidney's, I went with the Neurontin which had less side effects with the other meds I am on.

I'm also having trouble with one foot that is causing mobility issues.  The injections for plantar facititis are not working this go round.   The exercises have little impact either.
All other nerve tests were negative.

It's a never ending battle.  Pills for walking, sleeping, BP, drops for glaucoma.  Somedays the challenges just weigh down your spirit.  Sleep is important for the body.

Hi Donna,  I had plantar facititis when I worked and the Dr wanted to give me shots in the foot.  I didn't want them, so I went to the health food store and they looked it up and said to take 1000 mg of Vit C  4 times a day.  I had inserts made and this has helped and I never had the shots.  I also take 4000 mg of Vit C for the PMR that helped me get off the pred.  Vit C works as an anti inflamatory and pain killer.  Your body will only abosrb what it needs, so it is not dangerous to take high doses.  Just thought I would mention it.  Geri  Thanks Geri,

I will get some Vitamin C tabs.  I have inserts from a few years ago that were made for the hip pain I was having.  I had an injection in the hip that was like an aching tooth.  This was all pre PMRA days.  When I put the inserts in my shoe, they make a squeaking sound so I stopped using them.

I'm scheduled to get another injection this week.  I can't wear a closed shoe because the side of the shoe hits the irritated area.  I'm wearing flip flops with a heavy sole to keep my foot off the floor.

I'm just starting another reduction in Medrol to 6.5 and I want to disown my body right now.  Just flinging my body out of bed is an effort.  I'm crocheting small blankets for the animal shelter to distract myself.  My hands are the only part of my body that does not hurt right now.
