The first rhubarb crisp of the season is in the oven.    Now, I know that spring is here and summer just around the corner.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! That's a new one on me rhubarb crisp. Does it have strawberries in it too?Nope - just rhubarb.    I never had rhubarb alone- how would you describe the flavor?

hmmm... I never thought about how to describe it, other than slightly tart (which is why it's best with cool-whip or vanilla ice-cream)   It just came out of the oven, as soon it's cooled some, I'll give it a taste and come up with something that sounds more appealing than slightly tart.

yummy- crisp with cool whip and vanilla icecream- it's already sounding appealing!Mmmmmm, rhubard crisp w/vanilla ice cream.  My sister, is a primo pie maker, and makes both a plain rhubard and also rhubard/strawberry pie.  She's skinny, and I'm not, so I plead w/her to cool it w/the irresistable baked goodies, as I have little self-control -- her answer a rhubard crisp, none of that fattening pastry.  Right.  I'll have two servings then.

Come July her blackberries will be ripe, and she'll make MY favorite, blackberry and nectarine pie.

what is a crisp, is it like a rhubarb crumbleI grew up on rhubarb, and have one terrific receipe, which I would share if I could ever find my personal favorites receipe book which I had been collecting all my life, and have lost - my house isn't that cluttered.  It takes two hours to make :)  Cathy  PS  I am still looking, I will post it if it ever shows back up.Did the taste test and can't really come up with anything other than slight tart flavor - it's just rhubarb to me.   It was delicious.     JSNM - I grew up with rhubarb as well, I remember as a kid picking a stalk, sprinkling sugar on it and enjoying.  Looking forward to your recipe.

Lisa- crisp is like a crumble. Must depend on where you grew up what you call it.

Joy - blackberry and nectarine sounds like an interesting combination - I may have to give it a try.
I just saw some rhubarb in the grocery store and realized spring really is here.  I love it but I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet and sugar and artificial sweetners are a no/no for me.  I sure would love to have some but will make do with something else.

I have the first of the lilacs in a small vase sitting on the table.  Right now that's my first sign of spring.  Lindy
