Pain is coming back...on my left side. | Arthritis Information

So I go back to the RD on the 29th and I'm hoping for a diagnosis. But while I've been waiting for my next appointment the RD wanted me to start taking my pred. every other day (I guess to see if my swelling gets worse). I started that last Sunday. Not surprisingly my symptoms are starting to appear again- the swelling in my fingers has never gone completely away, but they are slowing getting bigger and my wrists are "feeling" swollen again.

Now, here's my question... Once I started on the Pred. 6 weeks ago most of the pain in my wrists and fingers went away. It would come and go, but pretty much was gone. Now that I have started to go every other day, the swelling and pain are back, but the pain is much worse in my left hand and wrist. My right hand doesn't bother me that much. Does anyone else have more pain on one side than the other???

Oh, I'm left handed...don't know if that makes a diference or not.

inflammation is often worse on the dominant side or at least it seems to be because we use that side more often

That's what I heard too-dominant side affected moreOh, I guess that makes sense....but I was really hoping you guys would all say that pain is never one sided and that there was no was I could have RA......

this is true my right wrist has had inflamation 13yrs..
never really thought about the connection before.. hi hayley just wanted to add both my wrists are near fused but xrays show
worse damage in left wrist allthough right wrist is allways swollen..

My right wrist is extremely involved. Left hardly at all, only minimally on my worst days.I think pain does yield to whatever side is dominant as there is more weight bearing and use on that side. Or maybe we might say overuse.

I have also read the dominant side can be affected more, but my dominant side is my right side and strangely enough my left side has been affected more. Not sure why.
