If you are concerned about quality, independent news reporting, you might be interested in this PBS Frontline program televised on some PBS stations tonight (check tv schedule).   From PBS site:

News War: What's Happening to the News (#2509) Duration: 1:26:46 CC Stereo DVS TVRE
The third hour of News War puts viewers on the front lines of an epic battle over the future of news. America's major network news divisions and daily newspapers are under siege, facing mounting pressure for profits from corporate owners, and growing challenges from cable television and the Internet, which are remaking the economics of the business and transforming the very definition of news. Frontline talks to network executives, journalists, Wall Street analysts, bloggers, and key players at Google and Yahoo! who are all battling for survival and market dominance in a rapidly changing world of news. Frontline also goes inside the embattled newsroom of The Los Angeles Times, one of the last remaining papers in the country still covering major national stories. Under severe pressure from Wall Street to cut costs and to compete for "eyeballs" in a new media world, editors at the paper are urgently trying to figure out what this means for their future news coverage and their public service mission.

  • The days of Ed Murrow are long gone and we're left with 'stunts' called 'news'.  He'd roll over in his grave if he knew what was going on.

We don't watch the new anymore.

I read yahoo news for any breaking information and i go to weather.com for hurricane season.

I get so tired of all the killings in local news which is all they seem to list except sports, and i don't watch espn etc. because they are like politicians, they just want to bash everything they report about.
Have you seen what they've done to Ted Kennedy today?  Love him or hate him - the man deserves better than what they have done today, basically pronouncing him dead.  Hopefully, he hasn't been watching.    It's on my list to watch.  I've read the reports about Ted Kennedy and I found them factual.  This is a grim diagnosis and his peers are supportive and have a right to be sad about the diagnosis.  This is a challenging type of tumor to treat and to date they haven't released the type of glioma.  The article I read was respectful, factual, and didn't sensationlize the news.  LindyI remember Walter Cronkite warning about this happening to the news back when he retired.  It's so insidious we don't even realize the extent.
