It is sad to hear the news of Kennedy.

He's a major political icon... from a historical family.. has his good points and some not so good ... He's been a senator for almost 50 years if not 50.  That's an accomplishment.  He's loved and adored in Massachusetts..  I do wish him good in this ..It certainly sounds bad. I'm real sorry to hear about it.

They give him 5 yrs but as a friend told me, Watch he will outlive what the drs say and he will keep on going. I loved his dogs that were with him when they showed him at the hospital.

He has a malignant glioma, which means he's probably got a year. Given his age and other health issues they can try anything, but frankly, it's time for him to get his affairs in order.
He had dogs at the hospital?
Yep they were in the hall with him  Remember he doens't go to a public hospital like you and I would go to.  He was at a private hospital so things are little different. The third longest serving Senator, for nearly 50 years Kennedy  has been a champion of civil rights, labor rights, health care, education and a sane foreign policy.  I hope he will be able to speak at the Democractic convention.
It's always sad to see Anyone suffer from a disease. I could never figure why Mass elected him . A Murderer, a cheat ( expelled from Harvard ) . His Dad bought his election on his first Senate run. Dad got him out of serving in Korea. Theres much more but I'm sure most of you know that as long as your  a Kennedy you can do just about anything and get away with it. That said if there is a way for him to recover I hope he can. He was in Massachusetts General Hospital - do they allow all patients to bring pets, or just the privileged few?
Lords Kennedy and Kerry rule the serfdom of Taxachuesetts. Hospitals have enough to do with the infections brought in by people. 6t5

As a Christian, I leave it to God to cast judgement on a man's digressions or sins, as Senator, in his 50 years of public service, Kennedy has earned the respect of the citizens of Massachusetts and his colleagues.

As far as bringing dogs into medical facilities, I have been in a public hospital and rehab facilities in which on occassion dogs were allowed to visit patients.  They recognize the benefit of visits from pet dogs or therapy dogs to a sick person's well being.  During my remicade infusions I often had the relaxing company, of Miss Lucy, a chihuahua, and therapy dog.

So is that privilege extended to everyone at Massachusetts General Hospital, or just the elite?  And what about patients who don't want to see/hear/smell dogs or other animals while in hospital?
I can only speak of my mother's and my personal experiences in California -- we are not the elite, we are just regular people.  In my hospital infusion section, the therapy dogs that everyone was happy to see and no one complained about, were brought in by the owners who volunteered their time to bring in their dogs to cheer up sick, stressed, depressed patients.  The dogs and their owners had gone through a special program, and "graduated" only after passing certain criteria.  Each owner, each volunteer,  bathed their dog before bringing it in.  They only visited those patients who were happy to see and wanted to visit w/the dogs.  The dogs were all extremely well behaved, did not bark.  Dogs can be very intuitive and know if a person is sick, or not well.

In the rehab facility I was in, not only were individual pets allowed to visit, but a volunteer brought in animals for those interested patients who took pleasure from petting or visiting with them.  This particular volunteer brought in her Australian Shepherd, a baby minature goat, and a bunny at Easter.  Her visits brought more smiles than complaints.  I am amazed at the nice things some people can do, volunteering their time, to cheer up people they do not even know.

There were dogs in the cancer center where my daughter was treated....

Ya gotta understand, Jas dislikes dogs almost as much as she dislikes Democrats!

So, It does not matter what any person does on earth until Judgement day? How's the kool aid in California
I work at a children's hospital, and we have therapy dogs who visit.  They must go through stringent health assessments before they are allowed in patient care areas, and they are not allowed to roam free.  The therapeutic value of animal therapy is indisputable, and if you could see the faces of the kids they visit, you would be moved to tears.

On topic:  I don't agree with most of Ted Kennedy's politics, but that aside, he has served this country for decades...he is beloved in his home state.  Whether or not his family bought his way into office initially, he was re-elected numerous times by the people of Massachusetts, and I don't question the motives of the people.  This will not be an easy battle for him to fight, and it is unlikely that he will overcome it.  I too, would like to see him be well enough to speak at the DNC, for historical reasons, even though I do not support his choice.  I wish him and his family peace and comfort.

You seem to take a lot of pleasure in being mean and twisting my meaning.  Having severe RA I cannot afford to be around toxic people, so you don't reply to me and I won't reply to you.

Kool Aid?  Y'know you really should take a break from those Limbaugh/Reagan/Farah/Dobbs talk radio and tv shows and try thinking for youself.

Joie2008-05-21 10:07:47So now Edmund Burke is posting...wow. Ted K is Evil. Just ask the Kopechne family   6t5

You are so quick to be nasty, it accidentally went to post before I had a chance to type my  response, which appears below that post, geez.   You are so hasty to be negative and mean.

Joie2008-05-21 10:18:16Koepekne not KopechneJoie, So now you are Judgeing me and calling me names ???? I thought only God could do the judgeing? Lemme guess. Your only Christian some of the time. Thanks Lin B for the correct spelling. It's such a shame to have a young girl killed and the person responsible get away with itP.S. Never heard of Farah/Dobbs. I have heard of Limbaugh but am not a listener. I listen to the radio for music. Sorry to burst your bubble. I personally can't stand dogs; I don't want them anywhere near me.  In particular, I don't like the way they smell.  And the wagging/licking/barking...

When ever I hear of Sen Kennedy I always think of these things.( good book)
But it is still sad to have something like this. It is good that he has a
 supportive family.

You could have taken the high road and just say I don't agree with many things he did in his life instead of going into the "better then thou attitude", it is not pretty.Malignant glioblastomas are the worst brain tumor you can have. They are usually aggressive. They have little feelers that crawl and infiltrate through the brain tissue making it impossible to remove surgically and damage usually occurs with removal. further chemo and radiation only offer temporary relief. These people suffer greatly and there does not seem to be any quality of life with this diagnosis. He will not live long with this type of tumor. There are some things money and power cannot buy and that is good health. I suspect he will get the best treatment money can buy. The same type of treatment that all americans should get with this diagnosis or any other diagnosis for that matter. I wish him well and hope his quality of life is good. We never know when one day we will be faced with a terminal situation. I guess that is why we must make the most of every day. Thanks, Lori.  I try and make the most of every minute of every day, I live in the present - not the past.  Lindy

It's always sad to see Anyone suffer from a disease. And you could have not commented but you did. Look just google him and his family. The Rich ( Dads Illegal Prohibition money ) and priviledged. I don't think leaving a girl to drown is the High Road. I don't think paying someone to take your finals is the High road. Lorster thanks for the explanation of the tumor. It sounds horrible
65 it doesn't matter the man is dying you can at least keep the opinion about his life to yourself. Yes he is not a model citizen, he made real big mistakes in his lfe, but it is a time to show sympathy for him and his family.meme2008-05-22 07:29:42
There are some things money and power cannot buy and that is good health. Couldn't have said this better myself, Lorster.  Thanks.

And now you have expressed your opinion. " He is not a model citizen,he made real big mistakes in his life " . As I said before I hope he can overcome this but by Lorsters description it's not likely
