MTX and diarrhea | Arthritis Information

So my rheumy increased my injections of MTX from 60 units to 70.  I took the shot Friday night, was fine Saturday and Sunday, and have had horrible diarrhea yesterday and today.  Could this be a result of the MTX increase? yes mtx made me have diarrhea and throw up for 2 days out of every week.  nasty stuff.I had diarrhea from MTX initially... I don't anymore...I had bad stomach pain, and stopped absorbing food. Put up with this for two weeks, then stopped it for good. An ellimination diet is less painful. I never had any issues other than mild nausea the first time. Different meds affect people different ways. I hope things get better for you.Lynn492008-05-21 04:27:40The only problem I have is my hair is falling out whenever I touch it. Not clumps but lots of strands. What is MTX?  Is it short for Methotrexate?  I started on that when first diagnosed and couldn't tolerate it because of a constant headache, migraine-like.  Stopped taking it and headaches instantly stopped.Yes it is methotrexate
What is MTX?  Is it short for Methotrexate?  I started on that when first diagnosed and couldn't tolerate it because of a constant headache, migraine-like.  Stopped taking it and headaches instantly stopped.
it's like a hang over head ache... drink loads and loads of water the day before and the day of.. also I was told by RD to take 1 TBS of dextromethorphan cough meds two hours before dosing and the next day.

I have NO issue w/ mtx any more.

also.. about wanttobe's hair loss... I started to combat it w/ another 1 mg of folic acid in my multi vitamin and biotin 1000 mg..  my hair is now growing back.. I could feel the little hair like a boys' buzzed haircut...  now it's almost as long as the rest of my very short hair 1 1/2 inches.
methotrexate is a chemo drug and can cause all the symtoms you would get if you were on chemo like hair loss, vomiting, headaches, and the poops(cant spell the other)  I had all those in the beginning but they went away after a few months. aren't we the lucky ones

they say it gets better. maybe for some, but no for me. some folks just have a bad reaction to it. like folks told me, give it at least 5 weeks or so to see if it tapers off. hope you get some relief soon.I was on MTX for 2 years and always had a day of diarrhea - at least!   And I would be nauseated for about 3 days...it helped when I switched to the injectable MTX but I still had "issues"  Hope it gets better for you  oh i might should add i was on mtx for probably 15 years as the dosing increased my symptoms got worse but i was able to wean myself off after adding remicade.   i took the pills then i drank the liquid (the shot liquid) with orange juice for some reason my dr never gave me the shots.  always had me swallow it in different forms.  if you just started it give it time it helps.  wonderwomanI have been on MTX for 3 weeks now. Boy it does a number on me for about 3 days. And I down a lot of liquid. I spend at lease 3 days with nausea and loose bowels. fun Fun. i hope it gets better.
