According to this, spending on Direct To Consumer drug marketing is decreasing:

"...pharma spending on physician marketing is alive and well and probably growing.

Spending on direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising, on the other hand, is DECREASING.

The recent May issue of MedAdNews lays out the facts in its 14th Annual Report on DTC: .37 billion was spent on DTC in 2007 vs. .61 in 2006 (a 4.2% decrease)."

.37 billion still in my opinion is too much, also the decrease could be due to no new "blockbuster" drugs to promote that year and several big name drugs going off patent, hence no more dtca for them.

And a link to the agenda for meeting about more ways to market to physicians.  Lots of percentages on the number of patients outside a med's target  that they should be able to get it rx'd to.
