just got back, my scan didn't show anything which i guess is a good thing, but my rd said because of my bloodwork and symptoms he wants to treat me for ra.  is that an actual diagnosis or just an i don't know whats wrong with you so lets try this?  he prescribed plaquenil.  i have never had any swelling and have tested negeative for any inflamation but moderate to high rf.I don't know the answer to your question but I'm happy for you that your bone scan did not show any problems RA or otherwise!

Glad to hear you had a clear bone scan.
Hope you find out soon what is wrong with you.
Hope you find a solution! and a clear bone scan is ALWAYS great! What was the bone scan like? I've only had a dexa scan and that's not the same; correct?Nope not the same thing, Lovie. It is a Nuclear Bone Scan. You go get a radioactive injection and then 3 hours later they will scan your whole body from head to toe with this like large x-ray looking machine, that hoovers like inches from your nose. Mine only took 45mins I think.

i don't know what a dexa scan is but a bone scan kinda of feels like a human waffle maker.  the 3 hours you have wait with the dye is not fun either.Let's hear it for negative bone scans.  Hooray!

As for the DX or lack of one, your doctor sounds like mine, in that he knows there's something autoimmune going on based on the blood work and symptoms, but none of it points to anything definitive. Also, no swelling and no inflammation markers. He said 30% of his practice is like that (undifferentiated) and it needs to be treated.  There's something going on that your RD recognizes and feels it's important to go after it and nip it in the bud.  At this point I'd do what he suggests and see if it makes you feel any better.  Keep in mind it may take a while for the Plaq. to kick in.  Good luck and congrats on your bone scan results.
Joonie~What did your scan show?I was sent to get the Nuclear Bone Scan because of my right hip problem. It showed that I had moderate uptake in both my hips and both my knees, and a lesser extent, both ankles, both shoulders, both wrists, both elbows, and both hands. There is slight increase uptake in both sacroiliac joints. There is slight increase uptake throughtout the thoracic spine.

Uptake means... where the tracer went to and showed up.
