Scooters , who uses them, best BRAND to buy?

I've had several friends, really push me, to get one.. and I've finally decided , ok, I will..

I want more independence in my life and at least, I can then get out and about and feel better. Go down the lane and see the new foals, tho they're probably a couple months old, by now.
Just journey around town, it'll help my spirits a lot, being able to get out and about more. :)
So its a good thing. Plus some you can go 20 miles, before having to be recharged.

Anyone recommend any ones they practically like , use.
Who uses them, here?

(Note: to all, there are coming many many medicaid/cal cuts.. so get whatever you think, you might need NOW!!!.. Stock up on meds, etc!!)...just an fyi ... imo..
Hi Whispered, I have one, it is a "Legend", I am lucky though, it is loaned to me while I live in Hervey Bay.   My life has changed dramatically since getting it.  I go out all over the place meeting friends for coffee, shopping, Mass, and the beauty of it is, I don't waste any energy.  I have bought a canopy for it and a pirate flag!!!!!  It travels at 10km per hour, can carry up to 150kg and the charged battery takes you approx 25-30km before having to recharge.  Best of luck, Janie.XX  PS it has a basket on the front and a large bag on the back, (I put the bag on with the canopy, cost me 0 Aus.)  Carries heaps.
I have a travel scooter ( Pride go-go ultra light ) . It comes apart in 4 pieces for easy transport in the car. It has 3 wheels is very stable and has a fantastic turning circle. It can take  to 100kg and stays charged for about 25km depending on the terrain . It goes about 11 kms hour which i find is plenty fast enough. Being able to come apart is great as I can ride to my local shops and if it starts raining its easy enough to come home by taxi . I've been wanting to get a scooter or power chair but live in the country -- no sidewalks and transport is an issue -- getting it into a vehicle and unloading it at my destination is also an issue for me.   I have looked on the website 1800wheelchair.com (don't type wheelchairs thats another site) as they have a good selection and I have purchased other things, a transport chair, from them.  I need to move, and when I do, I intend to get one then.  Good luck, I think its great that you're getting one, it will get you out and about, and its great to be mobile again.  Take care. Like allycat, I have a travel scooter that breaks into 4 (fairly heavy) pieces to put in the trunk of my car.  If I didn't have my husband to lug it out and help assemble it, I couldn't use it.  I have a Pride Sonic, although I don't see it on their website so maybe they've discontinued that model.  It was the right one for me, being both a portable scooter and handling extra weight capacity (if you're over 250 lbs make sure you look into that aspect).  I bought it on Ebay, lightly used for a significant discount (you'd be surprised how many are sold on there) from a man whose father passed away soon after they purchased it.  I love the scooter, which I used only for day trips, but I'm having some sort of problem with it...the battery I think...which may be from my using it infrequently.  Somehow finding out the problem has dropped to the bottom of my to-do list.

I bought my scooter 3 years ago from Costco. I had put in for approval with my insurance company, but at the time, I had a 50% co-pay. While waiting for approval, we got a coupon book from Costco with a 0 off coupon for a Bladez scooter. Mine is also a lightweight and my husband can take it apart and put back together very easily.

He put a lift on the back of my Explorer, so if I wanted to go somewhere alone, I just drove up on the lift, raised it and off I would go. It worked well for me for this long, but I'm now at the point that I need a Power Chair, as it would be much easier to control with the joystick. We found out when we looked before that the company our insurance goes to for these, charges a minimum of 00 for them. My insurance now has a 20% co pay, and I'm still waiting for approval.

My husband went on e=bay last week and looked at power chairs. He found one, 80 miles from us, which had a starting bit of 0. He made that bid and when the bidding was over, his was the only one! So he went and picked it up on Saturday. It's a heavy duty Alante brand. It will hold a 425 lb. person, which I am not, but it's very well made has very thick seat and can turn around in place! I weigh 145 but I like having a heavy duty one. I feel pretty safe in it. And it had been stored in a garage since purchased. Still had the plastic wrapped seats, etc.

Just be sure to look around. You can find some very good buys! Of course, most insurance companies won't pay if you get it yourself, but with such a price difference, you can end up spending less that you would through insurance.
My step-mother had one called the Rascal.  She was very happy with it.  I'd also suggest that you check Consumer Reports or any other consumer type magazine you can find, along with on-line reviews.  This is a substantial purchase and you want to make a good one, of course.

Jesse, that's a good thought.  Don't know if you know this, but Consumer Reports let's you subscribe on-line for a couple bucks a month and you have access to all their reports...plus you can cancel after one month without a problem.  It's worth it for a big purchase.

Hi whispered, just a thought but can you hire them where you live?  It is a good way to try before you buy, and sometimes the seller will knock off any rent you have paid from the selling price?  Hugs Janie. hi guys, thanks for the replies and feel free to continue! lol
I'm getting this FREE thru medicaid/ cal.. i think up to 1700..
like i said, it'll probably be awhile until I get one, but i'm
EXCITED.. happy news!!!
It will get me Out and less isolated!~  I would like to have one that i could put in a car ( which I will get someday!!!).. so then i can explore more neighborhoods.. might not be possible, plus at this pt, lol, i can barely lift the Oprah magazine, hee.

(and no can't consider buying one myself, a CAR comes first

One sales guy, mentioned "Golden".. all i know is i want a huge cupholder!!! lol and an umbrella would be nice too :D
