We installed a vent free gas fireplace and we have not felt good since. So we started inquiring with others who also had these heaters and the reports were overwhelming. Carbon monoxide, lung problems, fatigue, muscle aches, migraines and even black lung due to the soot that is omitted which is not noticeable until there is a build up on walls, windows, etc.

Yes, we heard the same thing, although the sales people will tell you they're perfectly safe. One did admit though that it's best to leave a window cracked during operation. During a demonstration, we could smell the gas, and that was it for us. I have to say though, there are people who are very satisfied with them. We decided to get a vented fireplace when we finished off two rooms recentl so we wouldn't have to worry about fumes.
