TV comic Bob Mortimer has told of the 'absolute agony' of his debilitating condition rheumatoid arthritis.

The Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased) star and one half of comedy partnership Reeves and Mortimer has been affected by the illness - which has also crippled his mother - since 1989.

Mortimer, 42, has already had to give up playing football and has been warned by doctors that there is a one in 10 chance of sufferers ending up in a wheelchair.

Mortimer says he controls his condition with steroids which have the benefits of reducing inflammation and slowing down the body's immune defence reactions.

However because steroids control body metabolism, over time they can thin muscles and bones leading to osteoporosis, increase excess body fat, raise blood pressure and cause fluid retention and cataracts.

Blimey..................I'm quite a fan and never knew that!!  I hope that he uses his celebrity status to bring a bit more focus and understanding of this disease I had read about him, also he was on ITV's This Morning a while back ( last year I think) Claire King from Emmerdale also has it , she was in dancing with the stars and in a lot of pain.....I wish more stars would go public, not for any other reason than to highlight the disease to othersI found this article as well
