Been reading these reports...asbestos? | Arthritis Information

Oh man, been reading these reports I have thus far from the CT scan.....Still trying to decipher, the one that gets me is the questioning of whether I had been around asbestos. That one is boggling my mind. I told my Dr. "not to my knowledge".

When I lived in Indiana those last years before moving, I don't think I was around asbestos,,,,,,wondering if I should call and ask the ex fiance' about it. THe thing is I had chest xrays in Indiana and it was never mentioned in anyof those reports so I suppose I will have to call the xray dept at the hospital there and have reports sent here to see if asbestos exposure was questioned.

I have not torn down any buildings but did help with construction on ex fiance's house.

Anybody have any idea if asbestos is found anywhere other than old buildings? I will try and look this up as well.

Did you ask the doctor why he asked that question?  It may just be part of a standard set of questions for those with pulmonary issues. asbestos used to be in a few things such as artex .
asbestosis takes many years to come to light .. i have freinds whose
father died of this after working whith it many years ago. i thought
it was in the lungs..

Yes, the asbestos question is concerning  the lungs......have trouble there as well. I am falling apart!

THe Dr. I have now is wonderful, she is so kind. I did ask her and she did not know, it is what the Dr. that read the CT scan that wrote it up in the report.

I am unable to go to my other PCP till my insurance changes again, I have to get my paperwork done and turned in on Tuesday. THen the cardio, ect.

Hmmmm, I am still thinking it has something to do with RA, but the consensus from each Dr. is that it prob isn;t.........OH WELL! Onward I search!!!!!!!!!!!!!My future awaits me   ...... (wonder if I need a sword for this?)

I've worked with that stuff so if it don't get me then the smoking will.
If not them, then the RA might, or the bus or !!!!

Oh my, I'm feeling a bit off today, like I just ran out of steam.

Yes, it's found in a lot of homes.  Most 50's homes had asbestos basement tiles.  Many older homes also had asbestos shingles on the outside of them.  Looked like 'shake' but were not.  They looked like they had thin groves in them about 1/8 of an inch across running the entire length of the shingle.  The shingles themselves are about a 12 to 18 inches wide and 8 inches high.  They would overlap.

Finally, there are older homes that had asbsestos wrapped around the furnace pipes.  At least I think thats what that was.  That looked like somebody encased the pipes in white 'cast' material.  Some people, being morons, or evil, or evil morons, trying to avoid have to pay for remediation, would take that tape stuff off the pipes.  When ripped off, it puts friable, or easily breathed in, asbestos in the air of the house and then the whole house is contaminated.

It was also used in plaster back in the early 20th century, as well as early linoleum flooring.

We have an old house with radiator heat.  One of the boiler furnaces went bad and we had to have it replaced.  It was entombed in asbestos, and so we had to have a remediation team in to remove it.
