Happy Tuesday.  Three day weekends can be stressful.

Jan
Greetings to you jan. Good day to you too Jan!  Hope this will be a good week for you and all.  Take care.
We spent S
unday at the cemetary cleaning the stones and leaving flowers
for my (fathers side) relatives. It was a great day to spend with my father
and he has a story or two about every relative in the cemetary.
My dad is so cool!
On Monday we went to the parade and then off to the VFW to listen to the
Veterans' stories and poems from mothers of soldiers that have died in
Iraq. My eyes were so swollen from crying but it sure was worth listening
to every one as to remember what Memorial Day is truely about.

Maimi,

I would accompany my Mom to the cemetery to put flowers on family member's graves on Memorial Day.  As a kid, it was sorta a game, to find the graves -- find the water faucet by the two redwoods, then walk in five rows, and there would be Grandma and Grandpa's graves.   My Mom would get on her knees to clean off the grave markers and arrange flowers she would bring from her garden.  Now, I bring flowers for my Mother's grave.

My 86 year old Uncle, who served in the Philippines during World War II, passed away this year.   I loved to hear the story of his return home.  The war had ended  but it was months before they were shipped home.  His mother, my grandmother, prayed for his safe return, and a few days before Christmas her prayers were answered.  They had a big party to celebrate and my Uncle and Grandmother danced the first dance.

There are so many stories from this era and other times, happy and sad, of family and vets.  May we always remember the sacrifices of soldiers and their families, and hope for the day when war exists only in history.

We lounged around the house most of the weekend, just relaxing.  I took the little one to the mall on Sunday so he could paint a statue (he chose a dragon) and of course we went to church and out to dinner with the parents on Saturday evening.  From Sunday afternoon to this morning I was in my pajamas. Thats a nice story about your mother and a wonderful story about your Uncle.
I heard so many wonderful stories yesterday and one lady read a letter from a relative to his wife during the Civil War . How beautiful it was to listen to and to hear the love this man had for his wife and two sons.
I love all those stories even when they make my heart hurt.
We normally walk down to the Memorial Day parade in town, but the husband was a bit under the weather this weekend (no worries... not as serious as "ManFlu") so we didn't make it.  He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era, and he lost a few friends in that war.  Our community has lost several kids in the current war.  There's never a dry eye at the ceremony after the parade. hi Jan!!  It is rought when Tuesdays are Mondays!!

I had alot of visiting this weekend.. and planting and repotting indoor plants..  I was exhausted last night.. should have taken it easier.. But today.. aside from having to go back to work.. was a good day!!
everyone please pray for my son.   he is at officer candidate school.   he arrived last friday in quanico, virginia.   he would love to be a marine corps officer.   he asked me to ask everyone to pray for him.  he will be there until july 3rd if all goes well.   w.w.We've just arrived in a small town in Washington state and will be here for the summer.  This is my husband's hometown.  Like many of you we spent some time with our departed relatives, cleaned around the graves and put fresh flowers on my mother and father in laws graves.  We picked tulips and lilacs from the family  homestead that burned back in the 60's.  The flowers are still blooming in the garden, so this is what we placed on the graves.  It's very fitting that the flowers came from the ranch that they lived on for 60 years.   We went to town for a memorial service and my husband met people that he hasn't seen in 40 years.  It was a very poignant day for us in many ways.  The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing.  Lindy
