How many of you suffer from jaw pain, I've had it know for above a week, my initial reaction was to go to the dentist who said that there was nothing wrong with my teeth!!  Now my whole mouth hurts, both sides and it definitely seems to be coming from my temporomandibular joint, its very sore to the touch.  Is this due to my RA??Ra can definitely cause TMJ issues.  Do you clench or grind your teeth?  If so, you might want to look into getting a bite guard made.  Mine has made a huge difference, I wear it to bed every night and sometimes even during the day if my jaw is really bothering me. My jaw acts up from time to time, usually in conjunction with flare activity in the rest of my body.  It really sucks... it is difficult even to chew a piece of bread when it is acting up!

I've had flares in my jaws too.  It's right at the joint where the top and bottom jaw meet.  I think that's the TMJ, right? My TMJ became involved while I had palindromic arthritis. It lasted about a month and then disappeared. I have been very fortunate that my TMJ has not been affected since I was diagnosed with RA. Very very painful.hi may i have ra in the jaw many years..
hospital said if i can eat ok and i can live whith it
they would leave me alone ...otherwise surgeon would
put a cammera into the jaw to have a look and allso
flush out any loose fragments of bone  so far i have avoided
this ...

I saw the dentist today. My dentest said your jaw joint is a joint like any other joint and can definately get RA in jaw. He agrees that i have that problem. Also Sjorgrens can make your saliva glands swell. I noticed at the oral surgens several weeks ago that my exray had white all along the right side of gum line to the teeth in the front of my mouth. Reminded me of an old MRI of my back. As arthritis shows up white on exray.

Anyway some times my jaw hurts like you descibed. Some days my teeth just all start hurting. Some times my saliva glands swell and hurt.

Problem is dentist say all in all my teeth are in pretty good shape. But i have had some problems with the back teeth nearest the jaw. This problem is bad for your teeth. I had the two top back teeth pulled on the upper right side. I am getting the back tooth on the upper left side repared and strenthened so i can chew my food on the days when my jaw doesn't hurt. So continue to see your dentist regularly. Also check to make sure you do not have Sjorgrens. Probably it is just RA. More bad news. If you get RA in the jaw you are more apt to get auto immune inner ear disease. The anti bodies can travel.
You can also get it from FM or have TMJ with FM. I recently had my dental checkup, so I know the mouth pain I've gotten was from FM. Aren't diseases fun--a never ending learning experience. I first went to the emergancy room at about 3am for jaw pain, the doctor looked at me without examining and said it was TMJ, go see a dentist.

I then went to the dentist who examined me and said it wasn't TMJ.

Once I got to the Rhummy, I found out it was RA of the jaw.
Usually when i feel jaw pain the Flare is right behind it. Very Uncomfortable and painfullI've had that a few times and usually my ear aches then too.  Mine is definitely part of the disease process.  I hope you get some relief soon.  I know it's very unpleasant, to say the least.
