enbrel question .. open wound | Arthritis Information

OK.. I have a blister that became infected last weekend because I didn't even know it was there!

I have bandaged and triple =antibiotic'ed it all week.  took the bandage off Wednesday to allow air to get to it.. it was looking good!!  I was glad cause tonight is my shot night.

Last night I took a bath... nice.. relaxing, right?

today.. the blister on my heel is looking gross again.. and weeping a little.. but clear

damn!!

so... should I NOT take my shot?

I really really really want to

I don't blame you... I googled enbrel blisters infection... not anything big happens.. just takes a longer time to heal.........that's pretty much where I am anyway...It's been almost a week...

hmmmm
Sorry - not an Enbrel user so you can discount what I say but I'm going to say 'don't do it' as they say infections are a no-no.

Hugs,

Pip
I would wait until it heals or call the RD's office and ask what they think.Lynn492008-05-29 16:42:34well.. since they made me stop for what was an eye irritation and take antibiotic drops when it wasn't truly "infected" I guess you're right.

I am p*ssed though.......................

It's hard NOT to do what makes you feel so good.. kwim?
Babs - I hear ya!B,

I vote for playing it safe too.  Delaying your enbrel shouldn't be too much of a problem.  I had to go off it for surgery for weeks, and didn't have a major flare.  Take care of that heel, it can be a harder place to heal.
hi babs i have never used enbrel so didnot liketo advise .. Thanks!  wanttobe!

I know.. I need to wait..

I start some swelling on Wednesday the day before my shot... and I tire much easier..  and that just stinks.

what about me  i tried hard     BONEY!!  we were posting at the same time.. I missed your good thoughts..

thanks!!  babs, I would skip the shot. I had a cyst (boil) and it was seeping and went to dr and they said no shot and put me on antibiotics. If it doesn't look like it's healing you should give the dr a call. Give it a few more days and see. Are you running a fever? If so, I would definitely call dr. A.S.A.P.!How did you get the blister to begin with? Shoes? Do you know the cause?

I'd shower and not soak in a tub until it heals.....the moistness made it worse; as you already found out.

The MTX is slowing the healing too....but I'm sure you aren't anxious to stop both.

Hope you're better soon; so you won't get too far off schedule.
When I was on enbrel, I never had any probs like that. I would call your RD's office for sure, someone will be able to tell you what to do.......infections on any part of the feet are dangerous........any blisters, ect. should be taken seriously I woudl think.

jode
Thanks all.. I will call the RD tomorrow.. and No MORE baths!!

this is my second "infection" .. the first wasn't IMO (in my opinion) it was an irritation in my eye from the plugs...

Yes.. my shoes irritated my heel... I never felt it til later that night.. Not good.. my I have peripheral neuropathy that gives me some places with no feeling... my heel being one...  I never felt it and it was pretty rubbed up.  what to do .. what to do..
I would call and ask the dr.  I would also watch the blister if it starts to look really nasty.  When my son was younger he got a blister on his heel from his shoes.  He didn't tell me.  My mother caught sight of it and advised me to take him to the doctor.  Turns out he got blood poisoning from it.Babs I definetly wouldnt take the enbrel, I was advised not to take it if i had any kind of open wound as the risk of infection is too great even if it is a dressed wound. Can you not buy a "blister plaster". I bought them in New York last year after i had an huge blister from sight seeing. My blister healed really quickly. Hope all goes well.

I worry about MRSA You have to be so careful.
