I'M JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS EXPERIENCED REALLY BAD CANKER SORES WHILE ON THE DRUGE ORENCIA? I STARTED THIS NEW DRUG 6 MONTHS. THE LAST 3 1/2 I'VE BEEN HAVING BAD BOUTS OF CANKER SORES. I KNOW CANKER SORES ARE AUTOIMMUNE BUT I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THEM?

NEED TO KNOW BEFORE I ASK MY DOC TO CHANGE MY MEDS!! THANKS!

Have them too but I'm not on Orencia- mine are from the MTXI'm on MTX and since I switched to the injections, I'm in a constant battle with cold sores on my face, which, I believe is in the same family as canker sores in the mouth.  It has to do with our immune systems being suppressed. I'm assuming Orencia suppresses your system like MTX does.  My RD made me drop my MTX dosage, so be prepared, your doctor may tweak your meds too.

I had them when I was on mtx, and once I started folic acid they went away.  Didn't have them again until I started Orencia when I got just one or two, then no more.  I'm still on folic acid (although not as much as when I was on mtx).

If you aren't already, you might want to try folic acid, or also probiotics.  Here's an article about mouth sores in RA patients:

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!I had them at first, but I guess my body has adjusted over the last couple of weeks.  Also, I upped my folic acid and started using Biotene toothpaste.
