Uncontacted Amazonian tribe photographed

Members of an unknown Amazon Basin tribe and their dwellings are seen during a flight over the Brazilian state of Acre along the border with Peru in this May, 2008 photo distributed by FUNAI, the government agency for the protection of indigenous peoples. Survival International estimates that there are over 100 uncontacted tribes worldwide, and says that uncontacted tribes in the region are under increasing threat from illegal logging over the border in Peru.(Funai-Frente de Proteção Etno-Ambiental Envira/Handout/Reuters

Very interesting - amazing that the estimates are 100 tribes that are unknown.   Scary for those tribes if society tries to make contact.     Did you notice the difference in skin color?   There must be some contact between different tribes  - either friendly or unfriendly.

Oops - just read the story on msn - some have painted their bodies red, it's not skin color.
CathyMN2008-05-30 08:26:21I saw the pictures on CNN and this is just AMAZING to me!  So fascinating!!!This story totally amazed me! Did you see the part about their immune system not being able to handle common colds? I bet they don't have RA.

(And I got a chuckle out of them throwing things at the aircraft. hehe)
It is so hard to imagine that there are such primal people still in existence on the planet. They are so much better off then we are here in our sophisticated world. I had thought about the "cold" virus and of course RA. There was a movie wigh Sean COnnery in it, with him being a scientist in a remote village and the primates never had a cold......

I will have to read more on it, MSNBC had more info? I just glanced at this article on yahoo and it really amazed me as well.  Not only that, but that there is illegal logging going on   STILL!
I think the movie was Medicine Man. They were in the rainforest looking for a cure for cancer.

It is crazy that there are still people living in such a primitive way. I wonder who is better off???That's it, Medicine Man...forgot the title, thanks! I loved that movie!

It is incredible.....just that they survive is amazing to me.
I was reading this morning about them in Yahoo news, very interesting.
