Biologics and Remission Question | Arthritis Information

Those of you who have achieved the dream of remission (edited to add:  great improvement not necessarily remission) and have done it by a biologic..

did you ever  have to skip doses?

For what reason?

Did you immediately find yourself w/ the same level of improvement upon restarting?

thanks.. I appreciate your input.

I'm currently on enbrel - 2 shots a week- and methotrexate - 1 shot a week.  I've skipped doses before.  A few times when I felt I was getting sick with a cold, I'd skip an enbrel or mtx shot.  If I skipped just one shot, I didn't notice a difference in the activity of RA.  I've skipped a couple of weeks of mtx when I visited my sister, who hates to load the syringe, and I noticed an increase in RA stiffness, pain, etc., but once I got back on schedule, it went back to the same level of control of the RA as prior to that - though it wasn't immediate, it may have been a few weeks.

I had to go off enbrel and mtx for several weeks before and after surgery.  I didn't have a flare, maybe cuz I was just lying around and on pain pills, I did start to have shoulder pain but again, once I got back on the enbrel and mtx, my RA was under control again -- its not immediate, depends upon activity of RA.

So, that's been my experience.  Take care.  thanks, Joie!! I'm hopeful to take my enbrel next week.. without any bad affects..Was on Remicade last summer when I had my knee replaced and was off Remicade for almost 5 weeks.  When I restarted I never reached the level of relief that I had prior to surgery.  I then had to stop again  for excision of basal cell.  2 weeks later I started Humira and after 1 month was 100% better and after 2 months labs, xrays, and exam showed I was in clinical remission.  LindyTWO MONTHS!!!  WOW!  that's encouraging..

Good for you, Lindy!!
Babs, this happened after 10 years of searching for the right combo!  I had tried Humira several year before but it didn't work.  Decided to work backwards instead of moving on to Orencia and went back on it and it worked like magic.  I was amazed and unbelievably happy.  I hope it lasts, I'd hate to give up golf and exercising.  I'm the perfect example that one should never give up or lose hope.  Lindy
