OT: BP meds | Arthritis Information

I was started out with 20mg of Coreg CR, then GP put me on 40mg of CoregCR. Then last visit a month back... he put me on 12.5mg of Coreg 2 times a day = 25mg/day. Told me to take one in the morning and one before bed. So... I do.... BUT...

I get weird feeling times thru the day. I will feel light-headed and dizzy. It feels just like I did before I knew I had High BP. But it comes and goes. When I get that feeling I am in kinda "zombie" mode and then I slowly get back to feeling better.

I have been taking my BP recently since I have been having more "episodes" like the above explained. My BP is always in normal range, so not high BP, but my pulse will be in the ranges of 100-130 when I feel like that. I cannot feel my pulse like I did before I was on BP meds. So... it is hard for me to tell now when my pulse is rapid, other than the shortness of breath and feeling like I done a vigerous workout, but done nothing. But even with those symptoms it takes me a while to put 2 & 2 ... 2gether.

I will some times take my 2nd BP pill way before I go to bed when I feel extra lightheaded and dizzy and within 30mins I am feeling much better.

I just do not understand why my GP put me on 25mg when I was doing good on the 40mg of Coreg and not having symptoms like I am having now. I guess I will find out the answer to that when I go back to him soon.

So... I guess this WHOLE post is about how 25mg of Coreg is not enough to control my rapid pulse like the 40mg was. It took my husband several medicine tries before he found a BP med that didn't give him those types of side effects. He ended up on Benicar. My first try was a success with Toprol XL along with a water pill. Maybe you need a whole different medicine Is it an insurance thing?  Coreg CR (extended release) is 10x more expensive than generic coreg immediate-release.  Maybe Coreg CR is not on your insurance plan's list of preferred drugs.  Perhaps the doctor could increase the dosage to 3 12.5mg tabs per day?

At any rate, I take generic metoprolol twice a day.  I could take Toprol-XL (metoprolol sustained release) once a day, but as with Coreg, it's a whole lot more money for the same exact med.  An added bonus of the immediate release is that if my heart starts the wacky heart rate crap, I can chew up a half-tablet of metoprolol and put a stop to the nonsense in about 10 minutes.  And yes, that has my doctor's approval.  He's the one who told me to do that. Yes, it does have to do with insurance... and the price for the Coreg CR. But it is covered, just expensive.

I do ok on Coreg, but at least a couple of times a day I get that way. I am going to see if he will up my coreg. I was doing really good with the 40mg. I done about the same as I am now when I was 20mg of Coreg CR.

Thanks for the input! I just thought it was me.
