Antibacterial Wipes May Spread Germs | Arthritis Information

I'm on autoimmune supressants, and have spent time in medical facilities, and recall how the cleaning people go about cleaning, so this article caught my eye, and I post for those interested:

Wipes may spread hospital bacteria

Antibacterial wipes used in hospitals to keep surfaces clean might actually be spreading germs like MRSA.

Researchers in Wales developed a three-step test to assess the efficiency of disinfecting measures using wipes.

They found that some wipes removed more bacteria than others, but often the bugs were not killed. There was a danger of wipes collecting bacteria from one surface and transferring them to others.

The researchers tested the ability of several wipe brands to clean surfaces contaminated with strains of Staphylococcus aureus, including the MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) "superbug".

Earlier the scientists had watched hospital staff using wipes near patients to clean frequently touched surfaces such as bed rails, monitors, tables and key pads.

They found that wipes were often applied to the same spot several times and used on more than one surface.

interesting post.. it seems 1 wipe per surface is what is needed here.
allthough it will never  happen..

Buttwipe Boney butt never on another surface   The directions on antibacterial wipes clearly state that the surface to be sanitized must be saturated with the disinfectant solution in the wipe in order to kill the microbes.  Once the wipe starts drying out and no longer saturates the surface, you're just smearing stuff around.

My nickname at home is disinfecto. I would never use a wipe to clean more than 1 surface LOL.

Hi Boney,  Didn't see you around this morning, good to see you back.

I was in a rehab facility, and remember the cleaning person cleaning my little table that my meals and everything else was put on, with the same cloth she cleaned other surfaces.  After she left, I'd clean the table w/my own stash of antibacterial wipes.  Maybe a little paranoid, but why take the chance.

I remember being in the hospital after having my first child and watched the cleaning lady clean my toilet and then my sink with the same rag- I think that was just about when I became disinfecto!no wonder MRSA is rampant in hospitalsThis is why our rule in our house is...if it hits the table (in a restaurant, anywhere other than home) it's trash!
