Anyone found this to be effective?  If so, what dosage, etc?my dad has a friend w/ osteoarthritis who swears by it..It is my understanding that these two compounds have shown some benefit with osteoarthritis but not with rheumatoid arthritis.  That being said, just because you have rheumatoid arthritis doesn't mean you don't also have osteoarthritis which may be helped by one or both of these supplements. I know very little about it but that it helps with inflammation.  Just wondering if even though it doesn't help with the autoimmune side of it, could it help with the pain while the DMARDs kick in?It's been good for my OA knee and probably elsewhere.  From what I have read it seems as though it has proven to be effective in OA.  Why don't you try fish oil which has been proven to help inflammation.  The dosage needed for a therapeutic effect is 15mls a day which is equivalent to about 15 capsules!!  I think it helped me a lot - I started it before I was diagnosed after reading about it's anti-inflammatory properties and I still take it.  It also is beneficial for the cardiovascular system. The target for fish oil is around 3 grams/day of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.  A typical 1000mg fish oil capsule contains about 300mg total of these two oils.

I agree, fish oil is a wonder drug (at least for me).
It's been helpful for my back, and I've been taking it since before my RA started, so can't tell you what effect it has had on that.  Give it a try and see if it does anything for you.

I use the NatureMade TripleFlex brand, at triple strength, two pills a day (it says to take three a day).  So that means dosage-wise I'm taking 1500 mg Glucosamine, 1200 mg Chondroitin and 250 mg MSM per day.  They have a bunch of different formulations, and they keep changing them, so it is very confusing.  I believe I read somewhere that to be effective, you need at least 1200 mg of each (Glucosamine and Chondroitin) per day.
