memory foam mattress? | Arthritis Information

Does anyone here have a Tempurpedic (or clone) mattress? I tried one out yesterday and fell in love with it.

Has it helped with pain/stiffness? Do you have any complaints about it? I've read so many conflicting comments about them. I'm most worried about fumes.

Any comments would be welcome

Kathy,

I don't have that mattress, but I do have the Sleep Number mattress - and I love it! I got it soon after I was diagnosed with RA. It's the one that has Lyndsey Wagner (Bionic Woman!) as their spokesperson. It can be a double, queen, or king and has 2 separate air mattresses that each person can control. Just like the temperpedic, it doesn't cause any pressure points. It feels like I'm sleeping on a cloud. There's such a HUGE difference between that and the more tradtional mattresses. I hardly toss/turn all night. (I know, it sounds like I should be a PR person for them!). Check on the web to find out where's the closest store you can see them to try it out!

Regards,  Rana

I do have a tempurpedic 2" mattress topper on top of my air bed.   Love it! I would recommend it.

We purchased a Tempurpedic mattress for my son last year because he has a painful back problem.  He loves it and hasn't been in pain since he started using it.

Why don't you try buying the Tempurpedic pillows to begin with, to see if you like it, before spending the money for the mattress?  Although the ads on the radio say you can buy the mattress and use it for 90 days, then send it back if you don't like it.

Everyone in my family has the pillow and we love it.  We even take them with us when we travel...can't sleep on anything else.  Wish we could afford the mattress for all of us.

We had no problems with fumes on either the mattress or the pillows.

I have spondylitis (arthritis in the back) and finally caved and bought the Tempurpedic. I cannot say enough good things about this mattress. My husband and I both love it. It helped me most with the normal "ouch" pressure points of our old spring mattress. No issue at ALL with fumes. And, surprisingly, no issue with heat (I had heard things about the bed getting warm). Check out my full Tempurpedic review.

spotmea3039137.6664583333kieye - just a topper???????????? They sell those???????? That's gotta be cheaper than the whole mattress set.......where did you find it?I have a 6" medium firm foam boxspring with a 2 1/2" memory foam top and an ergonomic memory foam pillow and I LOVE IT. The only thing not perfect about it is you get kind of hot overnight, but for a person with RA that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't have a memory foam mattress but I bought an "eggshell mattress pad" from Dollar General for .00. I love it......it feels good on my hips when I lay on my sides. My sister recommended it....the best !

My goodness this post is old!!!

We got a memory foam mattress about 18 months ago.. Ooooooooooooohhhhhh do I love it..  never use any other kind again!!

I bought memory foam toppers for all the beds in our house from Overstocks.com.  They are only about 9 for any size.  They are so comfortable and not "hot" at all.  The fumes are only when you first take the topper out of the box and last for less than an hour.hahaha, this post is old! I wouldnt have noticed that unless you mentioned it kathy.
last night I slept in luxury at someone elses' place. we discussed the difference between small luxurys like 200+ thread counts on sheets and the comparisons. The little things do matter when comfort is the key having RA
My husband works in a foam factory so he brought home toppers and a matress equal to temp. We have the topper on our bed and I love it. Feels so good! The only thing is I sweat like crazy!! and I am not a warm blooded person, I am always cold. We bought a Temperpedic this summer just before my first RA flare.  Although I like it a lot, I find it difficult to get up from it ( I am 55, afterall!), and even harder when one part of my body is unusable due to incredible pain. During that flare I had to sleep in a chair a few nights. Otherwise, my husband likes it a lot and so do I.I have a latex (memory foam) topper also . It was the best thing i ever did plus i have over that a magnetic lambswool overlay. We bought it on ebay.We have a memory foam mattress and my sleep improved tremendously.  No more pressure point pains but I agree with Nancy it's hard to get up from, especially when my shoulders are hurting or my elbows are painful.  That's my only complaint but for a good night's sleep I'll take the bad with the good.  It's been great for my DH.  He got a CPAP machine and a memory foam mattress at the same time and he sleeps better than he's ever slept.  Lindy

My mom bought me a topper at wal-mart.  It is about 0.00 it is 6 inches thick and I love it.  I thank my mom everyday for buying it for me.  I use to have a foam crate like topper and It does not even compare to the one that my mom got for me.
