My Humira Pen Misfired :-( | Arthritis Information

I've been using the Humira pen for the past 16 months with no problems. Then today, my pen failed to inject properly. I used the same procedure that I've always used, but today I noticed that when I pushed the plunger to initiate the injection, the click wasn't nearly as loud as usual, and there was no pain. As usual, I waited until a few seconds after the yellow marker appeared in the window, and pulled the pen away. When I did, a bunch of un-injected medicine dribbled onto the floor. I did have a tiny needle mark, so it's possible that some of it injected, but I don't know how much ... if any. There was no sting when I pressed down with a cotton ball, so, I suspect that little or no medicine was injected. Abbott is going to send me two free replacement pens, and I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow to ask him what to do. I have one pen left, but I'm hesitant to use it tomorrow (even if my doctor says it's OK) because I have no idea what amount of Humira may have been injected. I've had such great success with Humira that I hate the idea of messing up my bi-weekly routine. I'm thinking that the safe thing to do is probably to just wait until next Wednesday, take my next injection a week early, and do my best not to psyche myself into a flare.

Has this happened to any of you? If so, what did YOU do? Thanks!!
We've had that happen...but we realize it was messed up before we tried to use it. They sent me a replacement on Monday.

If I was you; I'd do exactly like you said. Even if you didn't get any one week won't make much difference and if you got some or even all of it you'll be fine to inject again in a week. I use to do weekly injections. Several folks here use it weekly. It won't be too much. The replacement will arrive quickly; don't worry.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll just wait until next Wednesday. The misfire was a big letdown. At first I had a big smile on my face because I was thinking this was going to be a totally sting free shot (about 1 in 5 are like that for me). I was totally bummed when all that wonderful medicine dribbled onto the floor. This happened to me and humira sent me two new pens. I called dr and since we had no idea how much of the med went in, I had to wait and take it the next time. Sorry, this happened. I know how hard it is to wait for your shot day just to get some relief.
Take care
Just a quick follow-up ... I talked to my doctor today, and he said if I wanted to inject myself again right away, that was fine. The injections only contain .8ml of fluid, which is less than 1/5 of a teaspoon. He said that from what I described, it was likely that none of the Humira was injected. I'll probably wait until Saturday or Sunday to take the shot, and then resume my regular schedule.
