How many of you suffer from costochondritis??  I've got this awful rib pain at the moment and it radiates through to my back...........very painful.  Is this due to RA??I had a bad bout with costo right when my RA symptoms began in earnest.  I still am quite tender around my breastbone, although I don't have as much ongoing pain as I once did.  It was an awful pain!  I'm not really sure whether it goes with RA a lot.  I know it can be a sign of Reiter's syndrome or AS (?) and other inflammatory arthritis, so it's all probably related.  I don't think they understand costo very well.Yes May, I have it, and its actually what is keeping me awake at the moment, it is really painful on the left side, can't lie on my left side, and if I lie on my right side it is uncomfortable too, RD said he thinks it could be AS, due to spinal pain, hip pain and Sacro-iliac jt pain too. So keep an eye on yours, RA is tricky, never know from one day to the next what to expect!  Regards Janie.  PS Heat helps me. I've only had RA for two years but I've had costo since I was a child, and although it's gotten less severe over the years, it's never gone away.  Janie, that's really interesting about the spinal pain and SI joint pain, because those are things I had already as a child...wonder if they're related.  When I was a young teenager, I had one doctor try to tell me it was because my breasts were too big.  My breast are too big too and I often wonder if that causes the pain in my breast bones. My doctor says it's caused by inflammation in that area around my breast bones. I mention it and he pushes on exactly where it hurts. I can always tell that my meds aren't strong enough when it starts to hurt. Since starting back on Humira I haven't had the pain there at all.
