OT - dental amalgams | Arthritis Information

The FDA is moving slowly into the position that dental amalgams can influence the onsets of these diseases.

When diagnosed I heard about this, and since my 'onset' infection was dental, chose to have all my almagams removed.  You need to see a 'biologic dentist' to get it done right.  They use high power suction and dental dams to make sure you don't get sicker.

Anyway, I can't say if it helped me as I was already on AP and doing fab when I did this - but those who do do this swear it cuts their flares and the severity of them.  Supposedly, the best way to see if this was a problem is to have everything done in the same month which I couldn't do as my insurance wouldn't let me.

Wow ...Pip !!!  Your onset was caused by your dental problem? ... finally! .. someone just like me!  ... I had a tooth that was horribly painful ... I had a root canal ... and  got a crown put on top ... it didn't work .. and it kept pus-ing with infection ... during that time, I thought all was well ... i had to get another root canal about 2 years after because my new dentist said the first root canal was bad ..  i spent more money putting another crown on ... it still didn't work and the pain and pus was still there ... finally, my third dentist told me to just extract it which I did last month.

But I really believe that's what caused my RA .. the infection from that root canal somehow triggered my RA ... I think the inflammation started because my body was trying to fight the infection ... unfortunately, my stupid body couldn't pinpoint the source of the infection and found my joints instead.  What do you think of my theory?

Pip, is that why you are on AP? .. to get rid of the infection?  I don't feel any differently after my tooth was extracted ... did I extract that infected tooth too late? ... would you happen to have any dental advice for me?.. thanks!

.
Cindy - there used to be a lot of us 'dental onsets' here on AI.  Yep, and that's why I'm on AP.  I kept (and more importantly my hubby kept telling them 'cuz they sure as heck wasn't listening to me) that this was all the fault of that abscessed tooth they had pulled.  But, no...coincidence they said.  It went from my lower back molar to my salivary glands to my right shoulder to my knee to my toe to MY ENTIRE BODY all at once.

I've seen info on strep (tested positive to that mycoplasma) and how it can live forever inside teeth.  And other info on how the teensy weensy capilaries in the teeth, if stretched straight, are 2 or 3 miles long.  And how the teeth sit in the jaw bone above a nerve that goes straight into the body.  Hmmmm.  I may have added 2 + 2 = AP wrong - but I'm glad I did.

Yes, it sounds like that extraction was too late for you.  Me too.  The dentist had wanted to pull it but I, vainly, wanted to save it as long as possible.  By my calculations, I was about 2 years too late.

If you're asking about AP, it'll still work for us.  What I mean is, if I'd only pulled that tooth when they wanted me to, I'd maybe never gotten sick.

Dental advice - NEVER see any dentist that isn't a biologic dentist.  If I could find one in the middle of a corn field, I'm telling you, you can find them.  Get those amalgams pulled.  It may not help, but it sure as heck won't hurt anything else.

And if you want some info on RA - Google RA and dentist or dentistry and/or infection.  Freaked me right out.  Did you know some states make patients sign waivers for amalgams anymore?

Pip who put you on Potassium. Be careful. Follow doctors directions. Too much Potassium can fry your brain.

I put myself on it, Milly, but the doc knows and agrees.  I'm low on it and a few others too.  LOL  It stopped my RLS except for a night or 2 before mense.

Hugs,

Pip

Well alright then Pip. I get low potassium also. Have had low magnisium before also. I tend to pop out of these anomalize as quickly as i go into them. I have like an auto immune vitamin defficiencies disease. So what i am saying do not over do. Keep a watchful eye. My blood sugar could be high or low or inbetween. My potassium drops off the charts. Then it's oh fine. I can even do this with liver enzymes. I am special.
