Does anyone know about laptop batteries that can charge for long periods of time?  The one I have can't.

Not sure what you mean... do you mean a battery that you can leave plugged in for long periods of time?  Or one that can last for several hours without needing to be recharged? One that can last without being charged so you can use it away from a plug.

Depends on the power needs of the computer and the watt-hours of the battery in question.  You can also make adjustments to reduce the power consumption:
Reduce screen brightness
Turn off peripherals you're not using (bluetooth, wireless, speakers, external hard drive, etc)

My current computer will last 2 hrs without a charge; my previous one could go 4 or hours. Thanks.  I will check with some computer stores.  It is convenient if you can use it without needing to be near an outlet.

Over time batteries lose their ability to hold a charge, so your's may just be due for replacement.  If you go to the website for the particular brand of computer you have, you will probably find batteries you can purchase for your computer.  Jan--

I have a Dell Latitude D630--and one of the best things about it is it's awesome battery life.  I can get 5-6 hours out of one charge.  I don't think Dell has the latitudes available in stores (I could be wrong though).  I ordered mine online.
