Hubby managed to meet his jockey this week!  The jockey says nothing is stopping Big Brown.

We'll be watching tomorrow, I guess.   Hubby says the odds are so much in Big Brown's favor, if you bet on him to win and he does, you would lose money!

We had fun watching the Kentucky Derby, because we recognized some of the jockey's names from going to the horse track near my parent's house.  I'll have to see who is racing tomorrow.
Go,    Ready Echo !!!!SHould be a good race.  Love horses.

I remember visiting Calumet Farms when I was a young girl and seeing Citation, a triple crown winner, who was living out his retirement in luxury.  As a typical young girl who loved horses, it made an enormous impression on me.

I also got to pet "Tim Tam" who had won the Preakness, but broke a bone in his foot in the Belmont which ended his career.  Fortunately his life could be saved and he lived out his life as a happy stud!  I can still see those beautiful brown eyes, and remember his soft muzzle.

How odd I am that I consider horses in my encounters with the famous!

T-bred race horses are just amazingl!  I would love for there to be another sucess story with Big Brown.  It brought tears to my eyes watching the enormous power and strength he had, pulling so far ahead of the pack.   If I had money to bet, I'd put it on him!

I love riding and use to show when I was younger. I rode hunter/jumpers. My great aunt trained race horses and when I was 13 she had a horse in the Derby. I use to love hanging around the barns and picking up tips from the trainers and the groomsmen.
Go,    Ready Echo !!!!
Are you feeling that?  I'm going to tell my mom to exacta box Big Brown, Ready Echo, and another horse then.  If any of them come in first and second, she'd win.
I used to pick horses for an uncle with a gambling problem when I was a little girl. They used to win! So he told me he was going to buy me a swing set. We went to the toy store and he led me past the Barbie dolls. (This was a LONG time ago when they were really special- there was only 1 new one every year or so.) I got excited! He picked up on this and said gee do you want a Barbie or a swing set? You guessed it- dopey me chose the doll.

When we were watching the Kentucky Derby I picked 8 Belles to win. How ironic that the poor girl would break her ankles and have to be put down when my own ankles give me the most trouble with RA and at onset felt broken. She would have come in 2nd!
So the UPS guy comes in, and I say something about Big Brown for the second time.  He lights up and says since you mentioned it, you get this button.  It's cute.  Hooters joined them in the endorsement.  He is the first person who told me about the cracked hoof.  Okay, the paper says Jeremy Rose is on Icabad Crane, and he is a jockey we see every time we go to Delaware Park.

So, if I could bet today, I would spend six bucks on an exacta box for Big Brown, Ready's Echo, and Icabad Crane.  As long as any two of the three come in first and second, I'd win.
It will be more fun, now that I have an imaginary bet LOL.
It's almost time for the big race - everyone watching?????Wow, some people made a bundle today!!!

While I was watching the pre-race stuff, I saw that another jockey we've seen was on Denis of Cork.  I'm glad he did well!!
Such a bummer!  I hope Big Brown is okay. What a shock!  I kind of feel bad for the winners - they aren't getting very much attention.  Big Brown is the story everyone is tuned into.  I wonder what happened! They think it wasa few different things, he didn't practice like he usually does because of the heel, he didn't get his steroid shot this time,  & the heat can affect each horse in a different way.  Earlier races at the trackone horse had to be taken off in a trailer an ice blanket thrown on his back and hose down with water etc.
