bone scan - it's done in nuclear medicine department - they inject you with a little radioactive dye (nice) then about 3 hours later you go on a kinda mri type thing and it scans your whole body to show inflammation of or damage to your bones.  did anyone elses rheumy send them for one of these and what was the outcome - i can hardly find anything on the net about them.  any info would be really appreciated. julie i had one done when i had RA and one when i didnt have  RA.  my orthopedic dr. had me get one done for my back.  the dye they inject you with isnt as bad as you think.    i know im not much help but its not as bad as an MRI.  try this link it looks a little more helpfull then i am lol  http://my.webmd.com/hw/health_guide_atoz/hw200283.aspthanks, that's really helpful xx I have no idea why the doc had me get a bone scan? I had a  bone scan.  It was critical in determining progression of my ra.  Not painful at all.
