Has anyone been turned down for life insurance because they had RA?  This just happened to me.  I was surprised.  I guess I shouldn't have been.Oh boy- good thing I bought mine years ago....Patti, I'm sorry this happened to you.  I have been getting life insurance through my employer, and now that I'm moving to LTD, I was relieved to find out I can continue my policy with that provider at the same group rate.  I have been concerned that if I had to go out and get new insurance at this point (now with the RA dx) that I would be in trouble.  Did they tell you that was the reason?  And did they offer you any insurance at a higher cost, or none at all?I've never applied for life insurance, but I did apply for long term care insurance through my employer and was turned down because I had RA.  I guess if I get to that point where I become so crippled I can't take care of myself, I'll have to take "personal responsibility" for my situation and check out.

I've had my life insurance for years and years so I can't be turned down for that.  I had been thinking of getting what we call income insurance but you have to have a medical so I wonder how I'll go.  I do get some included with my superannuation but its not guaranteed until your have a medical.  I guess I should pick a good time and get checked out and maybe I'll be able to qualify.  Keep trying with different companies, some will accept you....it's all in the underwriting That doesn't make sense to me. RA is not a fatal disease...is it? Is there something I don't know about? I have a small amount with my health insurance. Enough to pay for my funeral....but that's it. How much were you appying for?I don't think they consider it fatal; but it deceases your life expectancy some and may things related to the RA can turn fatal. It's rare; but possible. I wouldn't call RA usually fatal, but it can affect just about every organ in the body! I had auto-immune hepatitis a few years ago, never heard of it before.  My aunt died of heart complications after many years of RA.
AnnMy doctor was so kind to inform me that RA shortens the lifespan from 10-18 years!Fortunately I got my life insurance policies long before RA reared its ugly head.  I no longer have to pay for one of them because it had a disability rider on it.  As long as I am disabled the policy is paid in full.
Keep trying with different companies, some will accept you....it's all in the underwriting
I had thought that might be a possibility.  I will try some different companies...thanks.
