Question need to know if anyone on this panel has ever had a dental implant.  I have the option of getting one but I wanted to know from you guys  had any complications with this procedure? I have 3 options to get a bridge or and implant or try and build up my tooth and put a crown on it.  I have the beginning stages of Osteopenia and just was worry about the metal part that they implant in your jaw bone. It takes approximated 4 to 9 months for this process of implants to settle.  I want try it out but I am scared of the procedure that needs to be done and Terrified of the COST 00.00 dollars per tooth.

I have insurance but they may pay or the maynot pay.

Can anyone out there help!!

DX 1996  RA 12 years: Orencia, Prednisone, Methox, Foxamax, Folic Acid.My opinion - no crown!  That is no longer on my list.  I'll be gap toothed before that one.  Research 'dentist, dental and infection'.

I had an implant and I love it.  In fact it looks better than the original tooth.  It cost ,500 and it took about 4 months.   Pip, curious why no crown?  LindyI notice you are on fosamax and wonder how long.  I myself am on actonel for my osteoporosis.  I have read some articles about osteoporosis drugs, biophosphates, and how they may interfere with healing of the jaw after certain dental procedures.

Have you discussed this with your dentist or RA doc or primary doc?  You may need to stop fosamax before your dental procedure.  Good luck and take care.

I just recently got a dental implant.  I went through a lot to get it.  My tooth had been missing for about 30 years, so I had lost a lot of tissue and bone in that area.  I had to get a tissue graft as well as a bone graft before the implant.   The implant was the least painful of the three procedures.  You wouldn't think that, would you?  I just love the implant.  It feels great.  It was very expensive for me but I'm glad I did it.

My insurance didn't pay for the implant procedure, but it helped pay for the cost of the crown that gets placed on the implant as well as the two grafts I had done.
