I have at last after 6 months of suffering on no medication as 6 months pregnant been given some Prednisolone 10mg by my thryroid Consultant!!
I saw him yesterday at 2pm, got the medication at 4pm took it at 6pm and by 8pm the same night I could actually bend two knuckles on my fingers that have been badly swollen for a months or so. Im so shocked at the speed of this medication - i never thought it possible for something to work this quick.
Today i have been feet pain free, all fingers half way there to complete pain free and honestly I have been out all day with my Husband and children to the Fairground, beach then home and cooked tea and am so happy to not be in the pain I have been in for past 6 months!!
My GP wants me to stay on 10 mg until Monday then drop it to 5mg and see how I am on that.
I am dispointed i can't remain on it for duration of pregnancy - Dr says too dangerous third trimester for baby.
Anyone else had quick relief from this too?? And i hope that i have given hope to others by writing this.
Are you sure you can't stay on prednisone for your entire pregnancy? My doctors (both my obgyn and rheumatologist) said it was perfectly fine to be on prednisone for the entire pregnancy and while nursing. I was also taking 10mg. According to them, there is no danger to the baby. In fact, my first baby was 5 weeks early and was perfectly fine to go home with me two days after birth. My obgyn said it was probably the prednisone that actually helped his lungs develop. I'd ask again...I would think it would be better for you to feel good during the last trimester rather than trying to deal with any pain. Maybe you could get a second opinion, because I just know it's safe.

You know, I just looked at your post and realized you said 'prednisolone' and not 'prednisone'. Sorry for the goof. I've never heard of prednisolone and don't know if it's something similar or not. You might want to ask about prednisone for the rest of your pregnancy if things get bad (or if your worried about it, before they get bad). You will have to wean yourself from it eventually though. Good luck on the rest of your pregnancy!

Each person is different w/Prednisone or any other name=all equal steroids. Beware as packs weight on you like mad.Am aged compared to you but would never take this stuff during a pregnancy. Get off as quickly as advised by good dr. I seek info on what is longest someone should wait to expect Enbrel to take effect before giving up?? Tejas Hobo
