blood pressure and pred | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone..

Question?

The white in my eye burst a blood vessel and got all icky looking..dr said..oh that is the pred..your blood vessels are smaller..no big deal...BUT you need to watch your blood pressure..

well, am on blood pressure meds before the pred..and now blood pressure seems to be up again..

have any of you guys out there had this?? and if so what did you do??

i know ..i will call dr again..but wanted any info from you guys first..

tonight blood pressure was 155/82...yikes!

so not only do i have a moon face, fluffy body....and ache still..now my blood pressure is high.."fun" disease this is!

anyhow..

am on 10mg on pred these days...have had polymyalgia since feb..

any tips????

I have heard that you get higher blood pressure from Pred. I take Cozaar for that. You can read about in on http://www.drugs.com/cozaar.html I am down to 1.25 mg Pred after a start in June 2005 on 20 mg. I just try to get down to half of that (I cut tablets) and will take a long period to get over to the new dose as I have some pain in a foot.

Hi Cathi,

I, also, take Cozaar 50 mg for my blood pressure that has come about as a result of the prednisone. We've added hydrochlorothiazide to the mix, as well. It helps with the BP, and the swelling in my left foot and leg.

I've not had the blood vessels break in the eye, but they sure are breaking under my skin.

Legs get black and blue easily, and my arms are a blotchy mess from the skin tearing so easily.

Left food pain (plantar faciitis) we think. Injections are not working as well this round.

You may just need a tweeking on your BP medication. I'm down to 6.5 mg of Medrol. Aching, but still better than when I started with this 16 months ago.

Cathi - I have had trouble with high blood pressure since going on prednisone for PMR back in February. I just started on a pill that contains both lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide. It is working great. Previously, I had been on 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide alone, but it wasn't doing it. Good luck.

i am kind of freaked out..my blood pressure seems to be rising..tonight it was 160/95

yikes..and yesterday i was shocked..

anyhow...i am calling the dr in the AM

and going to excersize..

yuk..this is all so tough!
