Could Enbrel be causing this? | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone,

I have suffered with psoriasis for 23 years. My derm finally decided he
would do something about it and prescribed Enbrel. So far, so good.

I have taken 6 shots so far ( i take 50 2x a week) and my skin is finally
clear. It feels so good i can't even begin to tell you.

I noticed a few days ago the skin on my face was kinda weird. It feels as
though i have a sunburn and my eyes are a bit swollen.

I did call enliven services and the nurse told me they have never heard of
a reaction like this.

The thing is my eyes have bothered me since i have moved into this new
apartment a few months ago. I have done a lot of sneezing and stuff
since i moved in here. My eyes have been feeling funny since i moved in
here. 2 months ago i even got a sty in my eye.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Joan of Arc
I also want to mention that the site where i am injecting has been fine, no
redness, bumps, etc...you'd never know i am injecting there.

If this is an allergic reaction, wouldn't it had shown up after the first couple
of shots? Wouldn't there be a reaction at the site?

I really don't want to have to stop taking Enbrel. It has been good to me so
far.

I would think if you were having an allergic reaction the injection site would be the first place it would be noticeable, but I'm not a doctor. It does sound like an allergy though, but if you've changed circumstances it could be due to a number of things.

I hope it's not the Enrel after you having such good effects from it.

Best wishes,

Moonie x

i have been on enbrel for about 6 months now, i have PA, and i have also had wonderful results.  I haven't had any rashes or side effects that are noticable.  Maybe you are having an allergic reaction to something in the new apartment, do you have allergies to anything else?

I've been on Enbrel for almost 2 years now and the only "side effect" I've noticed is some occasional bruising at the injection site.  It sounds like it's your new environment.

I have a 6 year old on Enbrel injections 7mg 2xs a week and she has a friend that is 11 and she has scleroderma and JRA. Both my daughter and this girl started enbrel on the same day and my daughter improve with Katie did not. She went into something like a flare but her face was real puffy and swollen, she had aches and pains but she also has another disease dermoyositis or pain and inflammation in the muscles. Well anyway, to make a long story short....

She was allergic to it. They had to switch her to Remicade. I would call your Dr.

I hope this helped.

In my opinion it sounds as though you have an allergy to something you're breathing due to the fact that you're sneezing and have moved to a new place.  I don't think it has anything to do with the Embrel but that's just my opinion and I'm not a doctor.

Hi Joan of Arc,

I have been on enbrel for about six months. Last week my right eye started swelling and itching like I was getting a sty but has since gone away. I just thought it was weired that you mentioned it because I wondered also if the enbrel had caused it too. I also have a dull pain that goes from my left hip down to my knee when I stand on my feet too long. Those are the two things that have happened to me since I started the enbrel.

My vote says it is an allergy to your new apartment.  Maybe the previous tenents kept some sort of a pet that you are allergic too, and their oils and hairs are still floating around your apartment.  Either that or their are some molds, paint chemicals, carpet or carpet cleaning chemicals etc that are bothering you.  Stay at a friend or families house for a week.  If if goes away, it would be worth it to tell your land lord and then move out if they can't give you a different apartment that may be better. Dear Ceegee,
I too have had hip and joint pain after taking ebrel (3months)  I started using the ebrel for psoriasis only.  NO arthritis, but now my joints all hurt, hard to sleep.  Taking lots of advil to make it thru the day.  My derm told me to stop for 1 month.  Worried it won't go away!  Anyone else had new or more pain after taking enbrel?
Thank You,
Monja
does it look like the lupus butterfly across your face?  One of the things that can happen is you can get lupus symptoms...Joan of arc, I to have that on my face it is on mycheek right under my eye. It seems like it comes and goes so hang in there. And for the other person that has the hip hurting after enbrel I have the same thing and very pain ful. I may have to go off the enbrel it has caused me to go to ERoom 3 times already but this last was bad. For some reason the enbrel causes sisus infections and I had 3 now but this last one was very bad. So I have to make a desion soon what I will do. It does help But if this is going to happen I got to get off for my own saftey. I know many take this drug and have no preblems but I am one of the few that does. You have a good day. Joan
