Is anyone taking this enzyeme? It is produced by the silk worm to dissolve the cocoon. Yeah gross  but research says it eats inflammation and dead tissue and bad stuff like that. Do some google research on it - the news says it is a replacement for nsaids and here is a site that talks about it in relation to pmr...

here is the jest of it

Serrazimes® is a proteolytic (protein digesting) enzyme system containing protease that is derived from edible non-genetically engineered fungi (Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus melleus), that is designed as an alternative for Serrapeptidase (also known as serratio-peptidase and serrapeptase) in dietary supplements used for cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, respiratory, or immune support.

Serrapeptidase was initially isolated from Serratia marcescens, a potentially pathogenic bacteria found in the gut of the Japanese silkworm. Recognized as a pharmacological agent, Serrapeptidase has wide clinical use in Asia and Europe for the management of assorted inflammatory processes (Rothschild, 1991). In recent years, recognition of the efficacy of the Japanese product has lead to growing interest in the US dietary supplement market.

The product’s efficacy and availability over the internet has fueled its popularity in the US dietary supplement industry, where it is used for anti-inflammatory support, cardiovascular support, respiratory support, and as an adjunct to antibiotic therapy. Recognizing the potential for a "Serrapeptidase-type” enzyme in the U.S. dietary supplement market, the National Enzyme Company developed a protease system that has the same in vitro (lab test) activity as Serrapeptidase, but that is from organisms that have a long history of safe use in dietary supplements. Serrazimes® is the product resulting from this search.

Garden of Life has a supplement with this in it as well as some other stuff...called FYI Restore Muscle and Tissue Recovery.....

Hi, Smartie,
I thought about using this before I bought the bromelain.  The only reason I bought the bromelain is because I saw several statements that said it worked as good and it is much cheaper.  Are you planning on ordering this and if you dont mind me asking, where are you ordering from?  Puritans Pride has the serrapeptase enzyme for three for 59.97, which seems pretty close to what it is running under different names and different websites.  Thanks    Paula
One other thing I forgot, Puritans Pride is 90,000 units whereas some of the other companies vary from 20,000 units up.     I am not taking it now...i get most of my vitamins online at vitaminshoppe.com...they have better prices than i can find in my small town. Sometimes, though i will grab something off the shelf here.  I like the idea of the enzyme stuff. I have taken the bromelain in the past. Obviously something is just working right in our bodies.Hi to everyone, have been reading about the serrapeptase, and i am very interested, i was wondering how much would be an appropriate doze per day to take?

i am at my wits end and have to try something, my  dr is suggesting some serious chemotherapy drugs,  so i think i would like to try the serrapeptase first.

any more info would be appreciated.      hope you are all pain free.
                               Georgiana

Dosage
The recommended dose is 10 mg to 30 mg per day. For prevention, 10 mg daily. For arthritis, sinusitis, fibrocystic breast, bronchitis and cardiovascular problems, 20 mg daily. For pain, start with 10 mg daily and work up to 20 mg if needed. For injury, trauma or post surgery recovery, take 30 mg daily for two days, then go down to 20 mg daily until swelling and pain subside. Be sure to take Serrapeptase on an empty stomach, meaning that Serrapeptase should be taken at least two hours after eating, and no food should be consumed for a half hour after taking Serrapeptase.

It is important to note that not all Serrapeptase products are created equal. The enzyme activity is measured in units and clinical studies are based on the ratio of 10 mg of Serrapeptase equaling 20,000 units of activity. When purchasing the product be sure that the ratio of mg to units is 10 mg for every 20,000 units, or 5 mg for 10,000 units and so on. The average dose, therefore, is 20 mg–or 40,000 units.

thanks smartie, one concern i have is it could cause pneumonia in older people.
i  am 70, maybe try it for a couple of months to see if i get any results,  now i am not sure, i will think about it a little longer. thanks...............georgiana
I think it said there were two documented cases known. Is that right? If you are taking pred right now I would absolutely try it. Also consider serrazimes - see my previous post with the link to more information. It is an enzyme identical to the other but made in the US out of mushrooms....It has been five days on the Serrapeptase and I'm better daily.  I'm taking 40,000IU ....three capsules three times a day.  The first morning after taking my first dose, I felt a tad better and each morning it was becoming easier and easier to move those painfully stiff legs and shoulders.  It felt as though the disease had settled in and around my knees.  I had traveled alone to PA for a funeral, had a seven hour delay in Denver, didn't arrive in Pittsburg until three in the morning, check-in hotel at 3:30 and the next morining rented a car and drove the rest of the way.  Spent a stressfull week without proper sleep, proper food and lots of tears.  Arrived back in CA feeling as thought I was in the middle of a terrible flare.  Stress is a factor.
I read Smartie's post about Serrapeptase and thought I would give it a try.  I ordered it from Good Health Naturally and it arrived the following day.  At first I thought this stuff might not be good for me and then I reminded myself about the other poisons we take such as PRED, METHOTREXATE and ANTI-INFLAMS which are all known to cause some terrific problems within our bodies.
I find it exciting to move my legs in the morning and not experience pain and stiffness and can easily get out of bed and walk upright.......how exciting is that?  I've got a couple more days on this program and then I'll reduce the daily amount.  I'm really excited about this product.  I eliminated a couple of other things that I was taking so as not to confuse what was helping me.  One was an item my Rhumey gave me....samples.  I stopped everything except my morning dose of Pred 2.5mg and Zyflamend, Curcumin and my other vits that I take daily.  Even stopped taking Tylenol.  If it wasn't for an upcoming cruise I would start reducing the pred ......AGAIN.
Feeling good and getting better...........Susan

I started on serrapeptase two days ago, 40,000IU, two capsules 3 times a day.  Didn't feel anything after the first day.  Today I woke up feeling really pitiful.  Could hardly move.  Neck, shoulders, arms, hips, and thighs were screaming in pain.   Really disappointed.  I will continue with the serrapeptase just to see what happens.  I explored the Internet some more about this enzyme and found Dr. Ray Sahelian's web site.  The comments on his web site about serrapeptase were discouraging compared to other web sites about this enzyme.  If I don't get any better in the next few days, I might have to give up on serrapeptase.  I was down to 2.5 mg of pred in the morning along with two Excedrin, and one ibuprofen at bedtime after 3 years.  I was hoping serrapeptase would get me off this.  Now I really don't know. I've been out of town for a few days and I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems.  My first week was unbelievable.  I felt so wonderful....so much so that I thought I could throwthe pred away and continue on Serrapeptase.  I followed the instructions, taking three caps three times a day and then the second week I switched to one cap three times a day .......the pain returned, so I upped the dosage to two cap three times a day and to no avail.  Today I took two caps, plus my pred (2.5mg) and an hour later added two tylenol.  Thank God for Tylenol....!  I also discovered a wonderful over the counter helper called "Benadryl".......what a lovely little pink pill.  I take that right before I go to bed and I sleep through the night without a hitch.  I'll probably break out with big running sores but at this point I just want to be somewhat pain free and sleep through the night.  I guess my routine is my daily 2.5mg of pred, a couple of Tylenol and my evening dosage of Benadryl.  At least for the time being.

I'm really sorry for misleading anyone.....I thought I was on to something great.
Susan

Susan, don't feel bad, I took Serrapeptase and after the first two nites thought it was helping me too, then the third day I was worse than ever and also feeling nauseous.  Stopped taking the Serrapeptase and the nausea went away.  I guess we are all looking for that "miracle" that might take the pain away.
