whew spent 3 hours in the ER with jakie thursday morning, and the rest of the day was pretty much down the toilet.
..
he went to the playground the night before  with his bio/mom and other grandma, and came home early crying because he fell..he went right to sleep and I didnt think much of it..

thursday  morning he started crying again, holding his arm crossed over his chest, saying "I fall down in pwagrown, I bump I hurted the awrm.."

he kept it up from 6-830 when I said oooook.. and took him to ER..
he managed to get nursemaids elbow (hyperextension of elbow) which reset itself, but he also has a teeny crack/irregularity/fracture in the growth plate of the elbow.. the orthopedist said they really cant do anything for it, since its soo small, but to watch him, and if hes still complaining and not using it tomorrow, call him..

arrrgh

this morning he seems better, using arm. its still pretty swollen, but I think he will be fine..

he was sooooooooooo good there..

and he used the regular toilet too.. at first he was crying saying "its too big", but suddenly he just really had to go and sat on it and peed.. I had him face backwards which seemed to give more stability..

I am an ER nurse, we see kids with nursemaids elbows all the time. Usually happens when someone has the child by the hand and the kid suddenly goes limp or falls and it pulls a tendon from the position it's supposed to be in. They are very easy to fix, just a quick twist of the forearm and the tendon goes right back into place. They don't usually have a involve a fracture though. Poor baby! Hope he gets better soon. Kids heal SO fast!Poor guy!! I can't believe there's a fracture though. WOW! He must have really fell hard.

We had the same thing (nursemaid, no fracture) happen with the baby. He was walking and drew his legs up and DH only had him by the hand. We rushed to urgent care and the doc popped it back in to place and that was that. You would never have known the baby had traumas that day. LOL
well acording to his  bio/mom he threw himself  off a piece of playground equipment and she  wasnt expecting this and grabbed him as he fell

this is so typical for him he just jumps from everything all the time.. I guess she grabbed his hand/wrist as he fell.

we managed to  give our  oldest a good case of  nursemaid elbow at the same age..  we were walking both holding her hands and she swung up her legs suddenly.. ouchie.. we felt so guilty, but they  just popped it back in at the er..
My little one had nursemaids elbow.  I even told my ex husband that day not to turn him with one arm and he did it anyway.  Ex is a nurse too (so am I).  So I made him take him to ER and explain why it occured!  Very painful for my baby son but he recovered in a couple of days.My daughter was so prone to this I learned how to pop it back in myself. The first time it happened she was about 3. My dad was watching her in a store and she was trying to wiggle away from him to run but he held tight, she twisted herself and then started crying so bad about her arm hurting we took her to the ER. They wouldn't let me back with them in XRAY and were asking her questions leading to the possibility of abuse! Needless to say we all felt awful.
