Found this on the Arthritis Foundation website.

Here's from the above website:

"found that patients treated with monthly intravenous infusions of abatacept, in combination with either methotrexate or another disease-modifying antirheumatic drug, achieved a significant improvements in their disease signs and symptoms. For those who completed two years of treatment, nearly half sustained a remission. Abatacept was found to be safe and well tolerated in these studies (American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting, October 2004)."

A remission is as good as it gets!!! HALF in  TWO YEARS!!!

Why don't they have RA marathons to raise money for a cure like they do for MS or Muscular Dystrophy, etc.  I am sure there are more RA sufferers out there than MS or MD sufferers, do you think?  We need a cure, not bandaids!

Great stuff! I love hearing good news when it involves what we are all going through! Great to hear! The drs are working on many different ways to help ra sufferers.  It is going to take time.  In the Athritis Today , two issues ago, they had an article on new ways that are being found to help treat arthritis, one is brain stem cells, which do not have to be from a fetus, they can be your own.  What they do is take the stem cells do their little magic to it, while you are put in isolation so that you do not get infection, then the modified cells are put back into your body and they are to help your body battle the ra and they have had amazing results.  They are also working on how they can change the genetics of a person, whose family has a history of suffering from debilitating arthritis and help hopefully avoid it altogether.  That one will take some time.  There are amazing things going on now to help ra sufferers, quite a bit is still in experimental stage, which most of our insurances won't allow us to have, hopefully they will be able to allow us to have them soon!!!  Meme

this is wonderful news, thanks for posting it, maybe we all have remission to look forward to.

There's also the CPN10 trial I'm hopefully in next month. It's based on a
naturaaly occuring protein in pregnant women called chaperonin. They've
isolated it as the protein responsible for putting you into remission when
you're pregnant. If I could cross my fingers about all of these new things in
development being the godsend we all need I would

I remember being sick to death on mtx and my mantra was "arava is coming soon, arava is coming soon". That got me through many days. Since then so many new drugs have emerged. Enbrel, even with it's side effects, has been a miracle drug for me.

A cure would be best but I'll settle for remission gladly.
