So somehow I, and many others of us, have gotten caught up in heated debates, arguments, and criticism.  I think it's quite sad, and I think we should try to change it up a bit...

So I have an idea!

I was thinking for this topic, we could all post a song that helps us get through.  We're all dealing with RA, we all have our rough days, and I know I've got a song (well many) that makes me feel better on these days.  And if you don't have a song, maybe, hopefully, you'll see some on here and give them a listen, and maybe they'll make you feel better too! Great idea.  I can't really pick one song, it depends so much on what I'm feeling at the time, but I do enjoy songs from my teen years, those wonderful pain-free, care-free days.  Just hearing a favorite song from that time brings a rush of memories that I enjoy.  Just about anything from the Four Tops, Temptations, The Beatles.....the list goes on and on.  Lately I can't get "The Banana Splits" theme out of my head.  It was an early 70's kids show, which ran in syndication in the mid to late 70's in Chicago.  It always reminds me of the lazy days of childhood, when we would come home from a long day of school (7.5 whole hours, with gym and recess!) and collapse in front of the TV until dinner time.

Oh, I loved "The Banana Splits." But the theme that always stuck in my head was from "H. R. Pufnstuf" which came on afterward.

I seem to have lots of songs to help me get through RA.  I have my "frustration" song that are usually very loud hard rock.  Then I have my "I'm feeling sorry for myself" songs and my "I remember when I used to could do stuff" songs which are 70's and 80's songs.  I do like to listen to music when I'm having a bad day.  Although it doesn't help the symptoms, it does take my mind to another place for just a few minutes.

If I'm suffering, or just home sick with the flu, there's nothing like comedy to make me feel better.  It's gotta be so funny that I am laughing out loud.  Personally, I like zany, silly stuff - Blazing Saddles, Airplane!, old SNL reruns, even the first Jackass movie.  OMG I usually feel so much better after laughing for a couple hours straight.I love comedies too!

I use music too- but I don't have the lyrics available to paste right now.
Great thread idea habr!  You know I don't have a song yet, but I will think about it.  Music has so much power to heal and carry us through.

When my first husband and I divorced, I had a very difficult time (the divorce wasn't my idea, but at least it was civil).  I put together my "divorce CD" of songs that expressed all the range of emotions, including the peaceful, look back with fond remembrance type feeling that I knew I would get to eventually.  I swear that CD was the single most important thing in getting through that time (with my therapist being an extremely close second).  Last year when my best friend was going through a horrible divorce, I gave her the CD and it was helpful to her too.

I'm eager for all of us to share songs, and who knows, maybe I'll make an RA CD. How about "I am Woman"  - Helen Reddy.  Sorry guys - you can also subsitute man in place of woman if you'd like.

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

CHORUS

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
Great one Cathy!   Maybe even the men can kinda relate to that one.............I came across this only a short time ago and it really helps me.
This is a You Tube so turn the sound up

This song by Casting Crowns always reminds me of the best thing

Who am I, that the Lord of all the Earth
Would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurts
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star, would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart
                       ( refrain)
Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done, but because of who You are
I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed on the ocean, a candle in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling, Lord You catch me when I'm falling
And You told me who I am
I am Yours

Who am I that the eyes that see my sin could look on me with love
And watch me rise again
Who am I that the voice that calmed the sea could call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me

refrain

Whom shall I fear, Whom shall I fear, I am Yours

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Great song Lorster.  I still have an album with that song included.  Probably will never play it again, but couldn't not keep it.

I'm partial to "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister:

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

We've got the right to choose it
There ain't no way we'll lost it
This is our life, this is our song

We'll fight the powers that be just
Don't pick our destiny 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

Oh you're so condescending
Your gall is neverending
We don't want nothin', not a thing from you

Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do

Oh Oh

We're right (yeah)
We're free (yeah)
We'll fight (yeah)
You'll see (yeah)

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

No way

Oh Oh

We're right (yeah)
We're free (yeah)
We'll fight (yeah)
You'll see (yeah)

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

Oh we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh we're not gonna take it anymore

Just you try and make us
We're not gonna take it
Come on!

No, we ain't gonna take it
You're all worthless and weak
We're not gonna take it anymore

There are several songs I like. I like the 70's, 80's, 90's and todays music. I love Chris Daughtery. One of the best songs I like but don't know who sings it but it goes like this:

I get knocked down but I get up again and you're never gonna keep me down!
Then there's another rock song which I don't know the name of but it says:
Something about pain, I'd rather feel pain then nothing at all. I'm a heavy metal child.
CinDee, I think the "knocked down, but I get up again" is "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba.  See if this is it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm4iU0yx9GY

And the rock song "Pain" is by Three Days Grace... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlTbVFCZpHY ...that's a good one.
WOW, you are so right. I have trouble remembering the name of artists.
Thanks for that!
YOU ROCK! LOL!

I would love to claim a great memory (ok, I did remember "Tubthumping" but not the artist), but I have something better...Google!  Just type a lyric in quotes, and then the word "lyrics" and see what it comes up with.  Like here's what I typed for the second one:

"rather feel pain than nothing at all" lyrics

I Well, you're honest, that's a good trait to have. LOL
I have a 20 year old daughter that likes today's rock and a 15 year old son that loves country music, so it's a constant battle when we are all in the car pushing buttons on the radio. I always say it's my car, my music, which I flip around alot to find a song I like. Sometimes (if i'm in a good mood) I let them listen to their music. One gets to listen on the way to town (20 miles) and then on the way back the other gets to listen to their music. When I'm really, really in a good mood I like to "car dance" and embarrass them. Especially in stores, I dance and sing down the aisles just to embarrass them. LOL
Good clean fun!
CinDee, I know what you mean.  My hubby is stuck in the 60's (stuck, really I mean it!) while I'm into alternative rock (but still love the 80's) and my 15-yr-old stepson is into top 20 and hip-hop (although he has a surprisingly broad musical range for a teenager and has recently been getting into Bob Marley).  My stepdaughter is hearing impaired, but when she gets her new cochlear implant going, I bet she's going to like something totally different.  Car rides are a challenge....

And just so I don't hijack this thread too far...

One of my RA songs (and coincidentally, was also one of my divorce songs) would be "The World I Know" by Collective Soul.  I find the video especially moving.

Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all the kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in new york city
And I dont know why.

Are we listening to hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see that love is gathering?
All the words that I've been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding into one.

So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
As the years roll down.
cause it's the world I know.
Its the world I know.

I think it speaks to the despair we sometimes feel and the willingness to try again tomorrow and to see the good that is around us.
I can't see the video because my laptop is junk but I know what song you are talking about and it's a good one too.
FOREVER YOUNG BY BOB DYLAN
A very simple song with powerful words that empower me.

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

Yay I love all the posts!  Really good songs too!  I love the variety... some will make you cry while others make you want to jump up and down lol  They're all awesome!

So I kind of have an idea but I'm not sure what you'll all think?

I love to make those montage things with music.  I've made one for my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) before he went to Iraq and I also made one for my Godsons.

Those are the links to my two montages that I've made so far if you want to get an idea of what I'm talking about...

Anyways....
I was thinking it might be fun to make a montage with a couple of the suggested songs and some pics of all of us.  I'm not sure if that would be too personal for you guys... but it was just an idea.  I know none of us have met and most of you are older than me... but I just also know that you are the people that I really feel like I can relate to and who understand me... and I would like to make a montage for all of us.  What do you guys think??  Does it sound cool at all or am I just way too bored?  haha
