Question about Insurance | Arthritis Information

My husbands company is self insured. Does the company know what meds the employees and their families are on? Is this confidential? Does anyone know this answer?depends on how the plan is managed.  Most people hire an outside company to do it for them.  They know the costs but not who incurs them this way.  If HR manages the plan..then yes someone at the company knows. My husband works for an international company but BC/BS of Utah manages the plan. Does this sound like HR would know?Hi Lorster,

No.  If BC/BS is managing the plan, the HR person at your husband's firm doesn't know what meds and/or conditions are being treated or who is recieving benefits.  We too are self insured and BS manages our plans.  We only know the costs of the plan and whether the employee is single, married or family coverage.  Hiking_gal
Thank you buckeye and hiking gal. I appreciate the responses. My husband's company is self-insured; same thing there.  They contract with an insurance company who handles everything. I'm the office manager in our office and handle insurance related issues for the office and all the employees. We also have BCBS and I don't see any personal information about our employees after I actually submit their application. I'm not even notified if someone goes to the doctor and certainly not which prescriptions they are prescribed.

Lorster, Thats a good question. I wondered that also. I wonderr if Big Brother is watching?

6t5. I guess the reason this question came up for me was when the company has come up with this new plan. All the employees and their spouses were asked to get a physical...and if you send in the results...you will get a reimbursment on your insurance premium. So, my husband has a triglyceride count of 424 and now the company knows that. I wonder if that will affect his employment in anyway. He is working to get the lipid panel to normal numbers. He opted out of medication as he would rather control it with diet and exercise.    I just wonder if this kind of info can come back and haunt us down the road. We have Anthem at our office (small office) and we had to fill out a form with our health information.  On the form was Rheumatoid Arthritis/Lupus and other things.  It sucked
as that means the boss & his wife know everything...........
Wow Deb, that seems like a violation of your confidentiality as an employee. My concern is if somehow my husband is denied certain benefits or the cost of our insurance goes up because my husbands lipid panel was off.
