I fell | Arthritis Information

I have been stumbling over my own feet and not able to balance well all day, Wednesday, and it finally happen.

I went and took a shower around 2am to get ready for bed. I went to get out of the shower. I was out and then... I lost my balance and I fell back into the shower. I tried to catch myself, but all that did was make my fall worse. I fell on the shower seat with my right ribs and slide down to the bottom of the shower.

I twisted my right knee, my hips and lower back are hurting, and the right side of my ribcage hurts. My right leg muscles are all tensed up.

I just hurt. I do not think anything is broken. But I have said that before, when I broke my left elbow in a fall.

So... I took my 2 ultracets and a robaxin and waiting for the sleepy meds to knock me out!

I am going to be really bruised and sore when I wake up tomorrow. I am already in pain from the fall. I can feel the pain and soreness in every body part that was involved in the fall. Even my left forearm is hurting!

Oh and hubby was asleep on the couch, I had already tried to wake him up to go to bed. I yelled for him when I fell. It took him 3 tries to get me up off the bottom of the tub. My feet were still wet, so they just slid.

I am just thankful he was home when I fell. I have this crazy fear that I will fall one day and will be stuck in the floor for hours before someone comes. I got a cordless phone, but it is lost again and dead of course.

Oh well... will call my mommy tomorrow and let her know I fell.
Oh Joonie!!!!!

You really should see a Doctor ASAP. Really you should. I dont know what Meds you are on but I will assume that you may be suffering from a certain amount of bone loss and sore ribs and hips dont sound good at all!!!
Thank goodness you were not alone in the house.

I am so sorry you fell. Its something I fretted about  BEFORE having RA and now I am just so paranoid about getting in and out of the bathtub. I use hubsters 'step in 'shower when I need a shower as it means I dont have to step up and over the side of the tub to have a shower in my bathroom. But I need (well love is a better word) to have yummy soaks in lovely bubbles and smells so I do it. At my peril.

Please see your Doctor and I hope all is well and you can get some sleep.

((((Hugs))))...Lyn

Joonie, Joonie, Joonie, what are we going to do with you?  I am so sorry that you fell and I really hope you are ok, be extra careful, didn't you have a recent problem with your ears and balance?  Maybe get it checked out again.  Maybe too, you shouldn't shower unless hubby is home.  Take extra care gentle hugs from Janie. aw joonie - I hope today isn't going to be as bad as you think it might be - let us know.  and you are going to see your doctor today aren't you?   no excuses....the symptoms you just described plus the "black bugs" are signs of neorlogical problems....you have to get to your doctor...Hope it's not too serious Joonie. How are you today Joonie? Better I hope! Please tell your doctor and let us know what he says. That must have been so scary. It is a good idea to call your Dr to
let him know what has been going on with you , loosing your balance
is not a good thing. It was good that hubby was there to help you.

Joonie, as soon as you can call your doctor or go to the ER.  I'm more concerned about your balance and other symptoms that you've been having than the fall.  It sounds like a nasty fall and you should be checked out.  Hugs, Lindy

Hugs Joonie - careful, gentle ones!  Now take it easy, Greasy!

Hope there's no serious boo boos!
Hope you feel better and didn't break a thing, Joonie.I'm so sorry! ((hugs))Hope you're doing okay Joonie.Joonie,

Please get yourself checked out today and you probably should NEVER shower when you are alone in the house!  Take care of yourself! -- Sharon

Listen to buckeye!!!  I agree with every word!

Good luck and take care.
A few weeks ago before I got the RA diagnosis, I was standing on a chair trying to change a light bulb and fell. The back of my head and left shoulder hit the door frame. I went to the Dr and had a concussion.

Hopefully her husband has taken her to the ER or her doctors' office.  With her recent vision issues, I also worry that there may be neurological related problems that need attention.

I'm praying for you, Joonie....Let us know how you're doing.

She's probable still in bed.

JOONIE~Please let us hear from you. You know how we worry.
joonie, I agree with everyone else...get thee to a doctor woman!  That fall sounds horrible...I was cringing as I read it.  I hope you are alright.

It is a scary thought that you might fall (in the shower or just anywhere) and be alone.  You know you don't have to be "elderly" to get one of those "I've fallen and I can't get up" monitoring devices.  Give it some consideration....just Google "medical alert service".
Joonie........that's horrible.  I'm so glad you weren't alone.  I agree that you should see the doc just to be safe.  Hope you aren't too miserable today.Sure hope you feel better today than you thought you would last night!  We are all thinking of you today!!!!!!!  Hugs.   Linda   Thanks for the concerns everyone. I was still laying in bed... son did not get up until a little after noon time. So... I just laid there listening to my kids argue and be cry babies.

Called and made an appt to see my GP, I will not be able to see him until Monday. They are not open on Friday's. I think he does hospital rounds on Fridays.

I am fine and all. Just sore and tensed up muscles. Oh and stiff! NO bruises. Usually I get brusies for just my son poking his elbow in my leg or something, but let me fall and no bruises. Crazy crap!

I usually start loosing my balance alot when my knees swell. It is hard from me to realize that my legs do not bend as well as they do when there is no swelling. My feet do not raise up off the floor as much as when my knees are not swelled. That is why I do stumbling. Like my feet catch the floor and then I stumble.

Now as for the getting out of the shower... I was already out of the shower. I just lost my balance when I tried to turn around. It was weird how it happened, but I have done it before and not fallen.

Oh and I just read up on hallucinations & strokes. Seem that could be another option to my "black bug" hallucination. I have also been seeing "star fields" lately too, but only when I turn my eyes a certain way, which is an aqward way to begin with. Like looking up and then back to straight again. I try not to do it to much.

So it is probably all a result from the stroke. But I will see on monday.
Glad you lived to tell the story Joonie.  Take it easy tonight.Glad you're OK.  Let us know what the doctor says.
whew!!  could have been a rough one, Glad you're okay.. take care in the bathroom.. It's one of the worst places for a fall.. all that hard stuff!!!Glad you are not feeling too bad. Let us know how you make out Monday!Joonie,
please be careful, you really could have hurt yourself. I think I agree with everyone who said to wait til hubby gets home to shower. I hope you get some good answers from your dr.
take care
Wow sorry you fell. As if you do not have enough problems. Hope that the pain does not set in. Get well soon.I hope you're doing OK.  That is a long wait until Monday.  Get Well soon!  Hiking_galThanks ya'll!

I am doing ok today. My left buttock/hip muscle hurts when I sit down, but goes away after the initial shock. I think I might have bruised the bone or the mucsle. Not sure which, but does feel like the bone.

And my right rib area that hit the seat, well... it is still sore, and hurts when I lay on it. I hope I did not break a rib. It does not hurt to the touch, just when I move or hubby rubs my back.

Yeah... Monday is a long wait. I will probably be waiting in the waiting area of my GP's office for close to over an hour then another 20-45 mins before he comes in to see me. It is a slow VERY slooooow process going to the dr's.
Joonie,

Glad to here you're doin' a little better after that scary fall.  Do you have a hand rail in the shower that you can hold onto as you step out of the shower, it might help keep your balance as you're on one foot while raising the other foot to step out of the shower.  Good luck with your doctor's appt on Monday, hope you won't have to wait too long, and you get a good report.  Feel better.
