I keep breaking out in these big red bumps that itch like craxy and go away in a couple of days only to reappear somewhere else in a couple of days. I had one on my left hip then my right then under my eye and now 2 on my back. I take mtx. cortisone, remicade, celebrex, vicodin, provigil, claritin, flonase, flovent, albuterol  and some other stuff. Has this happened to anyone else? Also I'm having wicked dry eyes and some trouble breathing.
Thanks

wow tiana.  how are you supposed to tell which meds are causing that reaction? so many say it could be a side effect.  the breathing is scary to me.  did you go get it checked out by now?  Hope you are ok.

thanks for the keyboard tip, too.

Hi Hulagirl.

Thanks for answering. The breathing is much better. It must have been asthma. I think I have a virus. Its so frustrating to be on so many meds. Sometimes I wonder if they are killing or curing me. I hate going to the ER because you have to wait for hours, so I hung in there as long as I could and the breathing got better. I will call my dr on Mon. She is really good about seeing me right away.

If you have an infection you need to be at least off the mtx.  The mtx could be causing the problems you are having I was taken off mtx and am now just finally getting rid of the rashes I was having.  Mtx brings down your immune system which then makes you more easily to catch a cold, infection, etc.  My rd has stated that when you are not feeling well or sick with flu etc. YOU DO NOT TAKE YOUR MTX, due to the fact it will prolong your sickness and could make it worse.  I am off the mtx because as the doses were made higher it was causing rashes on my torso which were just horrid!!!

I just recently went through the same thing...This welt like hives started to come up at different places on my body then they would go down in about 2 to 3 days   A week later some more would come up in a different place.  Never did figure out what there where,.  At the time I was just getting off the MTX and just on Plaquenil...I don't think that did it though.  Then again, it might have as I have not had any more rashes and I am now totally off MTX...

Waddles

Thanks for the responses. I saw my rd yesterday and I have a virus. I had to have a breathing treatment.

She had no idea what the rash was from but wasn't overly concerned. Isn,t it strange. It's just the way you describe it waddles. I have an apt with a dermatologist sometime next week but with my luck I won't have the rash when I get to see him.

I am relieved that she doesn't think its an alergic reaction to the meds. I guess its a wait and see situation.

Kathy-

I started out with a red rash on my face that looked like I had the measles....That was two years before I was dxd with RA.  They thought I might have lupus- so they ran tests for lupus and I was clean thank goodness- then two years later I  had multiple joint swelling and was sent to the RD- he said I had been seen at their clinin in 1990 for a red hiveish looking rash as well-  Go figure....So may rashes are associated with RA- But having said that rashes also are a symptom of allergic reactions to something- usually meds-

I always get rashes out of the blue- but the last good one I had was when I was taking MTX- I had been on it for 4 months and I also had some breathing issues- I would get winded easily - so after some other complications they took me off the MTX- and said I was allergic to it.

My grandson has asthma- so I know that is nooooo fun.  Did they say if you could take benedryl?? That sometimes helps me with the itchy rashes- they have it in a cream form that I really like.

Thanks I'll ask for the benadryl cream- that sounds like a good idea. My rd said I have generalized inflammation and I guess that results in all kinds of symptoms. The funny thing is I'm always better after I take the mtx. They did have to cut the dose in half but that, with the remicade has helped a lot.
