I am having an increasing problem with pain in my left hip area. It seems worse when I sit down and recline. The pain is burning, annoying, almost tired like. It starts behind my knee and extends upward to my lateral left hip. I have to change position to get it to stop but then it starts in again and I have to keep changing position for temporary relief. Once I get up and move around, I don't notice it anymore. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I don't want to go to the doctor and be told...Oh, your just getting older. What does osteoarthritis feel like? It is not sciatica as I have had that plenty in the past. This is different. I have also noticed that I am gimping around a bit when I walk. Could be the bursa, if it's felt on the outside; could be osteo or RA too.  Not much help, am I?  I always have a degree of pain in my left hip.  Medrol beats it into submission for a few weeks, but of course you can't live on Medrol dosepaks.  I'm probably going to go off and have Xrays/MRIs/whatever in the fall... 5 years ago they showed no damage, but this pain is getting quite annoying.  I'm walking slower and doing a bit of hobbling some days. deterioation of the hip joint is generally felt in the groin radiating down to the inside of the knee.  I would invesitgate soft tissue issues or lower back problems.  Back problems seem more likely because of where you are feeling the knee painBoy, if things are like this....I can't wait for the "golden years", LOLHi Lori, any chance it could be sciatica?  Does it ever radiate to lower leg?  LindyMy OA hip pain is felt both in the groin area and the outside of my hip.  The knee is many times more painful than the hip, but the doctors tell me the pain is actually coming from the bad hip, and the inflammation of the nerve.  The pain runs down the outside of my leg, almost to my ankle.  Do you feel like you are feeling a grating or rubbing in your hip with each step?  Does it hurt to lift your leg, like you do to get into the car or into a high bed, or walking up the stairs?I don't have a clue what it is Lori, but I hope it doesn't make your road trip uncomfortable.  You're leaving the day after tomorrow, right?I have hip pain on the outside of hip and sometimes groin area. It is messes with my knee down to my ankle. I think it throws your whole body out of wack. My dr. said it was bursitis and gave me a shot months ago which really helped me for weeks. My hip pain hasn't been so bad lately. Enbrel is helping. I still have trouble taking long road trips in the car and I am most comfortable if my leg is straight.

I hope you feel better soon. Maybe give doc a call on Monday and get a shot?

This hip pain started in the groin and then went away. Now it is in the lateral hip, and extends down behind the knee then lateral all the way to the ankle. It hurts only when I sit. When I get up, I limp on it for a few steps, then I'm fine. The groin pain occurs occasionally when I walk. I don't think it is sciatica as the pain is not a shooting pain, just a dull, burning pain, almost like the joint itself is hot. Just so weird. I hate getting old and having RA. I have to stand so much of my day at work, just not sure if this is going to deteriorate and start affecting my ability to stand all day. Before my hip replacement, I would get the type of pain you were describing. The burning pain is from the nerve running down your leg. Mine was from the hip joint putting pressure on the nerve. You should have a x-ray done to make sure that the hip joint isn't beyond repair and ready to destroy the nerve.
Hope that this helps as I wouldn't want anybody to go through what I went through because I was to bullheaded to listen to my friends.

Marisa. was your hip problems from RA? Or OA? Hi Lorster!
I've been having the same type of hip pain. My RD told me it is tendonitis and has me going to physical therapy. Not sure if it is helping yet since I've only been going for about a week. Supposedly tendonitis is pretty common with RA. All this is kind of new and confusing to me
I hope you feel better soon.
Lorster - I was having similar pain to yours and it ended up I had a severely herniated disc. Are you experiencing any numbness? I didn't seek out a doctor until I started having numbness and I started getting clumsy; tripping and shuffling a bit. You might need an mri to figure out the source, but I would go sooner than later. I know how painful this is and I hope you have relief soon.
